I’ve been apart of Wealthy Affiliate for about 1.5 years — and in the time I’ve looked at hundreds of websites . Some were making lots of money, and some were making close to nothing.

Now all the websites that were making money, I started to see something they had in common.

I not only saw this within all these websites, but I too started seeing this with every website I created.

So what did all these money making websites have in common?

They All Had Lots Of Product Reviews On Them

Now the reason I believe products reviews help get people rankings and conversions is for two reasons:

1. They are easier to rank for. You see with product reviews, they in general are less competitive.

The reason be is you can write a post about a product before it launches, which generally means you're not going to be competing against many other websites, and secondly reviews usually spark a good conversation -- which also helps since Google loves engagement on your website.

2. Also reviews are further along in the customer purchase life cycle. During this point, people are trying to make a decision as to whether or not they want a certain product -- so if you can write a post as to why your product is better than the one their searching for, you can easily obtain a new customer.

Here's a pic of Kyle talking about the decision phase in the purchasing life cycle of a customer:

As you can imagine, it's far easier to get people to convert into a paying customer when they are already reviewing a product -- then to try and convert them when they are looking for just general information online like "how to play the guitar".

So if you're having a hard time getting keywords to rank on the first page of Google, or you have traffic but not many conversions -- try adding in some more reviews into your website and see how your doing in 2-3 months down the road. :)

Your welcome :)

Hi Michael,
That is great logic and insight---Product reviews.

Sue and I have basically two websites (a third one is rather dormant). My aviation site is nothing but reviews of aircraft. I am still struggling with it as far as content amount. But that is another issue.

But I can see how product reviews would "tell the story".

Thanks for sharing.

Yes reviews are easier to rank (for new items which you mentioned), but you do not have any traffic for them, and no indication if there will be any. So you have to choose wisely.

Also, the traffic is very small in general, even for established items on the market, at least for the keywords which you should target, those with low competition. The rest is statistics and it is very bad and tough. This is a terribly difficult strategy, but it does work in long terms, after having written around 1000 reviews I can say it works. But note, nothing happens in 2-3 months; think about years.

I agree whether it be review post or just information post -- getting traffic is not something that will happen overnight.

It takes months and sometimes over a year before your post start to rank within Google.
