Look At Us Now!
For those of you who follow me, you might remember a post I did about a month ago showing the raised garden beds we started building last fall. Well, we have had a great growing season so far this year out on Canada's east coast so I thought I'd share with you how this year's crop was progressing.
After two straight days of rain in early June, everything exploded especially the tomatoes! Parts of the crop look like a tropical rain forest! We have green and yellow beans, beets, cucumbers, brussels sprouts, peppers, squash and garlic.
Penelope has been busy canning and, for the first time, tried pickling some green beans. Very happy to report that the result was fantastic! We also learned that a key to harvesting cucumbers is to pick them before they fully ripen. This technique keeps the plant producing and boy is that true! Penelope has jars and jars of bread 'n butter pickles now and tried her hand at some spicy relish too! The pantry is starting to fill up nicely so we should be good this winter!
Anyway, just wanted to bring y'all up to date on our little homesteading experiment. For those of you contemplating a move out to the country, it's a very rewarding experience. For us, we're witnessing up close just how abundant mother nature can be.
So I'm signing off for now. Malachi and Elijah say hello by the way!

Hi Grant
Nice read there. You have tickled my fancy. Nice work with your raised beds.
I am consulting for a small farm growing mange tout and sugar snaps for export. Man I am just about to collapse with the level of aschocyta infestation. And with the MRL issues I am left with very little options to work with. I am praying that the season ends soon.
How is your tomato season going? Here we are struggling with tuta absoluta. I am even afraid to introduce my new cherry tomatoes for summer season.
Give my best regards to Penelope.
Say hie to Elijah and Malachi
Thank you so much! Everything is exploding here...we have had a great growing season...rainy days followed by sunshiny days...so the tomatoes, like everything else, are exploding I've never seen anything like it...

I haven't been following your gardening, but I love it. You know exactly what you're eating, and it’s great to hear how well your garden is doing!
It sounds like the raised beds have taken off this season, especially with that burst of growth after the rain. It must be fantastic to see such a variety of crops thriving.
I wish you the best for summer.
Exactly...nothing quite like pulling it out of the garden and on to your plate! Love it!
