No you never want to do that. Cam only change before you publish. But not after so if it says update leave permalink alone. I knwo it hurts.

Yes, you can change your permalinks settings. I recommend using postname without the date WordPress Settings That's the format that Pretty Links uses Pretty Links

Can you show me an example of what a Google + URL link would look like?
