For example, I have a blog about ski and snowboard helmets and goggles. The amazon affiliate links are for specific colors and sizes of helmets.. If I put a link in for a grey
Anything they buy within a 24 hour window after they click the link is attributed to you, even if it’s a totally different product. Also if they add something to their cart, you get an 89 day extension on the 24 hours but only for whatever they add to cart in that first period.

Amazon affiliate links, how far past the original product?

Seriously, think about using additional merchants besides Amazon. Amazon is known for one of the shortest cookies (just 24 hours) as well as lowest commission rates around. Most other merchants will have significantly higher commission rates and 30-day cookies. Skiing is not a cheap sport - people are going to care more about good equipment than free shipping (and most merchants have a free shipping threshold too!). Only promoting Amazon is costing you money.

The Smith Vantage and Variance. Photos of MIPS technology as well as in mold and injection molded helmet designs

Hey Clay,
Have a read here: Succeeding With Golf Balls, Scaling With Shoes! Btw any niche can be good, finding the right keywords can take some time, but it is surely not impossible.
Read it, that might help answering your question. :0)
