How Did I get Here and What Do I Do Now?
Good Afternoon,
I stumbled upon a blog written by WA Ambassador AlexEvans titled “Just Curious, How Did You End Up Here?” Believe it or not I was writing about this very subject last night. I am new to all this. Frankly the idea of writing a blog scares the stuffing out of me. I asked myself how I got here and what am I going to do now.
Like many in the community I joined a few online "opportunities" in the past. They ended up with my money and I ended up with a box of CD's (dating myself here) and a useless website. Useless because there was no mentor, no road map, no clear direction. Build a website, they said. Join Clickbank, they said. Make boatloads of cash, they said. I guess two out of three ain't bad. I gave up.
Fast forward to last week. I still get a random email regarding the next best online business. I probably should have spent more time unsubscribing. One happened to slip through and I clicked the link. I decided to do a bit of due diligence for a change. Turned out to be another "Get Rich by Tuesday" deal. While doing my research I came across Wealthy Affiliate. Boy if that didn’t sound familiar. Regardless, I went to the website and read that I could try it for free. I know, right? What do you ever get for free? Since I was in due diligence mode I searched for info. oddly enough, I couldn’t find anything negative on WA. I went back to the site, entered my email and clicked Get Started.
Then something weird happened. I got a message from one of the owners telling me how happy they were that I decided to give this a try. Then another welcome message came in. Then another. I was warmly welcomed by several folks, some new and some that have been around a while. Who knew that a single click would introduce me to a community where everyone seems to genuinely care about each other and is encouraging each other’s success. I spent the first evening writing thank you messages and following people. Probably should have found a few minutes to start the training.
That's the "how I got here" part. I'm still trying to figure out the part about what happens now. I have never been able to find my “niche” in real life. How do I find one to base a business on? And worse yet, how do I write a blog about it in such a way that will make people want to click the “Get Started” link on my site? I plan to unleash my due diligence persona and go through the training. I’ll learn everything I can about affiliate marketing in general and WA specifically. Hopefully doing all this will point me to the niche I’ve been looking for. My path to this point felt like a sprint. Now it’s time to train for the marathon ahead. Wish me luck! Please!!
Thanks for reading my first attempt at blogging. Hopefully it gets easier!

Welcome and I'm glad you're here. As for you niche, I found it's easiest to start with something you know well and/or are passionate about. It can be a hobby, some trial you overcame, etc. As long as you're invested in it, it's easy to write about. Take me for example, I love drones - easy peasy (spelling?). I'm also into SCUBA and sailing, 2 more niches for me to dive into. Another approach is to take your vocation or some obstacle you overcame (i.e. cancer).
Once you pick a general niche you can then dive into sub-niches (my example with my drone site is focusing on DJI drones and even more down to a particular series. My posts are focused toward these drones however they can also be applied to other makes and models so it's really cross-platform.
I hope this helps you in your search for a niche. Like I said, start out with something you know well and/or are passionate about. You can also start more niche sites that may require more research down the road.
Thanks for your welcome and your insights. My concern is the niche I have by day really isn't something compelling to write about. I work for a building components manufacturer. I could talk a long time about roof trusses or wall panels. I don't imagine that would keep my audience captivated for much longer than the time it takes them to hit the back button on their browser.
I am interested in music, cars and to some degree technology. Not an expert on any of them. Maybe some deep diving into one of these will turn up a solid lead on my niche.
Until then I will continue going through the training and keep moving forward.
Thanks again and by the way, I followed you.
