House move blues

I really bit off more than i can chew this week, i have had a book launch programmed for five weeks or so and then a house came up, we have wanted to move for almost two years. Which one do you do first or as i did try doing both together, and at the same time i'm trying to create a new business on WA.

Here's how not to do it, i rang the housing council and told them we would be moving in

about three weeks, "Oh no" they said, "If you want to put in your notice you have to move out that day, then you get your notice after,"

"This isn't how i thought local council's did it," so we had to agree.

Then we started the mountain of phone calls to tell everyone we're moving, electric, gas, phone, post office, On and on and on the list goes, have you all done this before, stop me if i bore you?

The first thing i didn't need was the phone to be cut of a day earlier than we had agreed and broadband, so no phone or net i had no contact with anyone to arrange the move or with any contacts in business or the red tape this mess brought about.

To add insult to injury i am waiting for a physical proof copy to arrive from create space before i can actually launch, i needed to proof and return before the book can be made available for sale.

So on the day of the move we had still not packed everything as we were still living in the apartment, things like carpets, curtains, tv hifi, and some every day essentials were still to be packed, The movers turned up at bang on 7.30 ready and rearing to move, Oh by the way did i mention we are both disabled, mornings with us are a bad time anyway, In they strolled "Ok what do we take first?," The man asked.

They could move through that house faster than a plague of locust, my wife was panicking about her ornaments and taking things that she wanted to go in our car, they never heard her calls and stripped everything they could put their hands on, we had an empty apartment by 9.15 with no idea where anything was to go at the other end and still no book proof, which finally turned up on the Monday morning, just 5 days before the launch, Needless to say that has had to be rescheduled and our new house is still a mass of half empty boxes, strangely it's kind of like our first place before we had any furniture at all. Very homely

Oh my, what an episode! You and your wife are remarkable to have handled this all so well...hats off to both of you! Good luck with your book! Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Rosie thanks for the kind words and nice wishes

They are sincerely meant....

Hope things quiet down and you're able to settle in pretty soon.
May God bless your new home.

We are hopeful as well Funmine, thanks, best of luck in your venture

I can not imagine the chaos of having someone else move your belongings. Doing it ourselves is bad enough.
Best wishes.
Edie

Been there. You must prepare ahead of time for the movers. You poor things. However, silver lining, you have your house and the rest will work out.

Thanks for the advice Su but we didn't have time to plan, we were offered the house and had to choose straight away, accept it or it will be offered to someone else. so it all happened very quick, the book launch that we have also had to cancel was already planned, now has to be reorganised. Just a bit of a nightmare

Oh wow, chaotic times, for sure. I don't understand what you mean by you have to put your notice in when you move? I thought requirement is one month's written notice????

Yes you're right Gordi, but with local council's they will accept 1 months notice in leau, all settling now thank my lucky stars

Moving is the definition of chaos and stress. Hope it all goes well.

Hi Doug and Debbie, i think we have had all the stress we can take, it's all done now.

So sorry to hear about all the chaos you've gone through to get moved. On a better note, congratulations on your book! :) Michelle

Thanks Michelle

Oh I feel sorry for you both, moving home, as it is, is dreadful enough, with those complications it is even more horrified

Thanks Loes for your kind words

Wow! I have moved more times then I care to think about and it is never easy but with your additional circumstances, that is really challenging! Sure hope you can relax a little and get settled in now! Christa :)

Thanks Christa i don't know how you do it, i never want to move again. I will however launch lot's more books.

I don't blame you on not wanting to move again and I hope all goes well with the books! :)

Oh dear, I can imagine you're poor wife worrying about breakables. The councils up here do give you a bit of time, or they used to, maybe it's changed since I started renting privately.
On the upside, you are in for Chistmas and have a few weeks to get some boxes unpacked and everything looking like home again. You also have a completed book ready for launch.
Onwards and Upwards. :)

Thanks Kathy, wish you a happy, wealthy 2015
