An Afternoon with namecheap

An understanding of websites would help in all area's at the moment, i visited my new site to do some simple work, having read yesterday that my site health needed work.

Firstly my site log in asked for a new password, and then i decided to post the story of my beginings as a writer just to put something in there, okay after that i thought a name change as suggested by Kyle would be okay, But this is where it all went wrong. I called Namecheap and created a new web site domain chrislakinauthor.me all good, and while there i thought i would see about transfering my other site chrislakinauthor.wordpress.com to WA dns, they completly baffled me with computer geekery and left me in no doubt at all that i need some lessons in computer speak (jargon) what is an eep code, ofcourse i have found out now but it is getting very tiring every day feeling like i could bang my head on a brick wall and not feel a thing, there is no sense left. if someone would have a look and give me a clue where i'm going with this it would help so much, struggling for direction, being a whinger again

Hi Chris. I can empathize with your lack of computer lingo, I am in the same boat but will figure it out as I'm sure you will too. Remember..."that wall is far harder than your head" no matter how tempting:)
Emily

Oh! I forgot to add, You need to pay for the repair to fix the crack you made in the wall. Oh maybe that was me. I tell you what I'll go you halves

Didn't you see my head beside yours.I will give you an example. In a job that I had I was looking after a number of drivers and a lot of them mature. We went from hand written manifests to computer manifesting. They were all going to leave. I wrote down every key stroke every key to press when something came up on the screen. I had them laminated and each driver received a copy. No one left. The greatest moment was that after five weeks my oldest driver came to me and said" I did it without the sheet" Iam no great computer person and I need those sort of sheets on a constant basis. The other day i needed to know how to copy a screen page and I needed it in DERRR. WA supplied the answer. You have to be very specific when you ask a question and how you want it answered. You are not alone Chris. My steps on my website are very small. It will take me 3-4 days just to sort out an Email address. If you have a problem just message me direct or MS Debbie she seems pretty good at the website stuff. We are here to help so Small steps and don't worry about what other people are doing.

Thanks lindon

Aha! We meet at last. We are the confounded by computer geekery, computer speak or computer jargon. eep code....what is that?

Anyway, Larry had wanted to know what is the difference between a
keyword, tag and a slug.

Loes sent to Larry a Codex or Glossary by wordpress which I found to be useful. I'm wondering whether this could help towards solving the computer geekery. Here it is:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Glossary#Post_Slug

Please don't bang your head against the wall anymore Chris...I tried that and it is most painful.
with love and blessings, Shirley

Thanks Shirley that should be very useful

At this stage every bit will help (for us relative newbies).
Thanks for sharing Chris, at least we know what to expect...
God's hand be on you both always.

I don't deal with namecheap, my registrar of choice is GoDaddy. I never encounered any problems.

This happens.

We all go through stuff like this, all the time, so don't get discouraged and enjoy the trauma

You will get it right I am sure.

An EPP code is used when transferring a domain registration from one registrar to another one. Providing the code from your current registrar to the new registrar validates your ownership of the domain name.

Since your http://chrislakinauthor.wordpress.com site is a subdomain of http://wordpress.com (much like our siterubix sites are subdomains of http://siterubix.com), you don't own the domain registration for that domain.

To host your http://chrislakinauthor.me site at WA, you'll need to point the DNS settings (at namecheap) for the site to the WA servers.
