How to revive a dead website-does WA work?
Where to start?
Last year was very bad for me. My health led me to a lot of doctor visits, a couple of stays in the hospital, and one surgery. I have recovered and have not seen the doctor since October.
My aunt whom I care for(she was 91) passed in April. This left a hole in my life as I had cared for her for the last 5 years as she fought cancer. Weekly trips to get treatments was my time to spend trying to work on my website and look at some training videos. It was a very depressing environment to work in.
My son started his second year of college, this has led to me trying to support him while he is away from home. When he does come home for a visit, it costs me over $100 for gas and food.
Working on my website was not the first thing on my plate. My website has paid for my Wealthy Affiliate dues, tools needed, and a little extra cash since my second year here. I have been a member of WA for over 10 years.
After dipping into my savings in November to pay this year's dues, I decided to put in a little effort to see if it would pay me again. I have another website that I keep up for my church that I use the hosting here, that way it does not cost them anything. It made sense to see if my website could make money again.
Things went from bad to worse
My website crashed in December around Christmas, the theme lost its owner (he passed away) and could not be updated. It caused a lot of things not to work and I could not change some things. I added a new theme and decided that I would do this. This was a lot of work to get a working website again.
Zero traffic at the start of January. What to do, give up or put on my big boy pants and move forward? The training was here, did I want to use it or just leave it go?
What did I do, I am not a quitter.
I started with training videos from several people on Pinterest, website design, and how to use the AI writer in Wealthy Affiliate. Thanks to the training I was able to write a path to take.
January started with writing a post every day without fail, sometimes 2. I followed the training on using ChatGPT, the AI writer here at WA, linking, and promoting my content.
I have a Pinterest account with a lot of pins, of course, I have not pinned anything in a year. It was still giving a small amount of traffic.
After watching some of the training on Pinterest I resumed making multiple pins daily. I am presently making 10 each day.
Did these 2 things help? For January I did not get 1 click from Google, noticed that I got 2 this week. Pinterest and Bing's traffic has steadily increased in January and February so far. My traffic is silly low, in the past I have had almost a thousand clicks per day with a little work which led to some affiliate earnings that paid for everything here.
Thanks to all who have helped so far
For those looking to build or recover a website, Wealthy Affiliate is the place to be. A special thanks to Jay, Eric, Kyle, Mikael, and Vitaliy for their training. There are others, these are the people who have been most used.

I don't write a lot of posts here in WA. If you would like to hear more of my journey on how to revive a dead website, let me know in the comments below. If I do not hear anything I will leave it go and just work on it in silence.
I am just starting this journey, follow along if you wish. I will post some numbers at the end of the month. How is your website doing, are you doing what it takes to succeed?
Hope all of your journeys are going well. If you have questions on anything at WA, don't be afraid to ask or use the search bar above. People are always here ready to help.
Sorry if this post is a little off-topic for WA. My 20-year-old deaf cat helped with this post along with ChatGPT for the image.

I can totally relate to this, John.
Life gets in the way sometimes, and keeping up with a website can feel impossible.
But it’s really motivating to see how you pushed through and got back on track!
Makes me rethink my own approach to consistency.
All the best,
Boris
Boris,
it is either move forward or just throw in the towel.
I choose at this time to move forward.

It sounds like you're getting right along with your website. It's good that your health has improved since October of last year.
Myra ♥️
Myra,
Things are looking better for me this year so far. I have decided that I need to show up everyday with a list of things to do. I have a wipeoff board on the fridge, write a list for each day and erase things as they get done. It does include house work and other stuff.

Hi John and thank you for the timely response. I appreciate it. I think it's good that everything is going good for you this year compare to last year. :)
Myra ♥️
John, thank you so much for sharing:) You had a year like I had last year, and I appreciate your transparency. I, too, am kind of restarting, after my biggest affiliate closed their business without any notice, and I lost quite a bit of my website income. Crazy! I wish you all the best:) Keep looking up!
Blessings,
Suzi
Suzi,
Affiliate company's keep changing things quicker than I can keep up with sometimes. I live in a location where Amazon is not in the picture, finding affiliates that are reliable is a bit of work.

I am interested in the journey of pumping new life into an existing, neglected site.
I suppose those of us who have been here a while have one that could use some help.
Real-life experiences are always more interesting and relatable. Hearing how you made the training work for your situation is helpful.
Thanks for sharing,
Sami
Sami,
I think I will try to give some stats at the beginning of the month, progress and numbers.
