How to make a tab icon for your website.

If you look at my website, http://howsixpackabsaremade.com .you`ll notice that I`ve created my only little tab icon for the site. These things are called favicons and are very simple to make.

First, go to http://www.favicon.cc/ and draw up a design(the blocks represent seperate pixels). If you scroll down a bit, you`ll see a preview of your favicon in a tab. Once you get it how you like it, scroll down and click "download favicon."¸

Now if you`re lucky, in your theme options you will find a spot to imput your favicon. The alternative is in actual coding but I can`t say I know much about that.

Anyways I really think it will give your site a little extra credibility and "personality" if you do this.

Your favicon is your site branding. There are other sites that do this branding too.
This brand will follow you everywhere. Thank you for the share choppydo. Agree it give your URL status, and easier to recognize in the bookmark sections of visitors.

Oh that`s just the first one I came across while trying to figure it out. Didn`t continue looking after I found one. I`m having a hell of a time trying to figure out what I want to do for my bootcamp site though...

Agreed. For those who are still not sure what these are, they are particularly apparent in Firefox. Most (but not all) major sites use these, it is the logo that you see on the Firefox tab.

For example, WA has a blue "wa" logo on the tab, the same as the logo in the top left corner of this site. Gmail has a red "M" logo.

These are very simple (and quite good fun) to make, but add a lot of credibility to your site making it much more official-looking so DO have a go, simple things like this cost you nothing, not even a lot of time and could mean that visitors take your site a little bit more seriously.

Ya I knew I wanted my own before I even knew what they were called lol.

Can you teach me how you did them.

There's another one called IcoFX which is actually a downloadable windows app, worth checking out as some may prefer one to the other. It's the one I used to design my last icon.
