Aww Yea! Just completed Course 1 and all the boxes have been checked!
Feelin' pretty, pretty good right now!
Website is live along with the about and privacy pages, plus the first article post is published...can't believe I wrote 1000 words! Granted, it took me all Saturday afternoon but it was my first and I'm sure with practice that will take less time.
The only issue I am having is how much work is involved. Honestly I wasn't sure what to expect when starting. But it looks like the more you put into this the more you'll get out of it. I am grateful for SiteRubix as that really helps but I spent a good 4 hours Saturday evening (probably my most productive day ever) working on the banner. Still not happy with it but it will do until I can learn some Adobe image creating alternative. If anyone has any suggestions for logo or banner creation AND stock photo imagery, I would be grateful. Thanks!

Hi there
Congratulations on your new site and well done on persevering with your first article! My first article took me a week to write lol. That was mainly due to a combination of self-doubt, procrastination, and perfectionism, but I got there.
For logo and banner creation I use canva, which is a great free tool, and for images, I tend to use pixabay or pexels. I'll just let you in on a big mistake I made regarding images that might help you.
When I first started using images, I googled royalty free images that I could use on my site. I found some that I liked and used them on my first five pages and some of my posts. It wasn't until I read some posts on here that I realized I hadn't been cautious enough.
After checking my images, I discovered that most of the images I had used were not license free. I was using them without permission. This meant I spent 6 hours one evening replacing my images with images I was 100% sure were free to use and license free. The Images I now use are CC0 images.
Look to ensure it says CC0 in the licence of each image you use and your good to go. The sites I use as mentioned above pixabay and pexels to my knowledge, use CC0 images. But it never hurts to check before you download each image.
I know this is a long response but if it saves you an evenings work removing all the images like I did, it's worth it
Good luck with your new site!
Hi Stephen! Thank you for the information! I checked out Canva on your advice and it looks awesome and I signed up for the free version. I'll check out pixabay and pexels a bit later on.
Also the your info about royalty free images is gold. I'm gonna save this info for a time I can really consume this and look out for those CC0 codes. Much appreciated!
You know your stuff so I sent a follow your way. Thanks again!
Cheers,
Ron
Thanks for the follow Ron. I followed you back. I'm still relatively new, been at this a few months, it's always better to learn from someone else's mistakes, that's why when you mentioned images, I thought I would jump in there.
Canva is a great little site. I only use the free version, perfect for me as I'm a total novice when it comes to graphic design. I'm sure there's more in depth, versatile options available, but it's served me well so far and for free, you can't complain!
