Celebrating regression. Say What?

Totally inspired by Eddy Solom's post 'Are you afraid of writing?' I decided to face my fear, look at it straight in the eye and say: bring it on, show me what you got! give me your best shot!!!! I will FEAR NOT. Well, perhaps i will fear yes, bot will STOP NOT. There is no stopping me once I set my goal as a destination. My GPS is on and I am heading one direction. I will keep trying until I hear my mental GPS announcing loud and clear: YOU HAVE REACHED YOUR DESTINATION no matter how many times my GPS needs to 'recalculate'.

Today I am here to celebrate a point of regression. Yeah, yeah, I know your eyes are opening nice and wide right now. You say: we celebrate success, we celebrate progress. We celebrate life. Regression???? who celebrates regression??? Well, I celebrate regression. I celebrate every time I see I got one step back from my goals. Why you ask?

Well. The first answer is - JUST BECAUSE. Yeah, yeah. I celebrate regression just because its part of life and life is a reason to celebrate every day, every minute, every second we take a breath. We never need excuses to celebrate life.

My second reason for celebrating regression is because one step back means another three steps forward are coming. Life is fluid. Every success involves both ups and downs. The way to our destination is never one straight road. There will always be uphills, downhills, potholes to watch out for, detours to figure out, traffic lights to stop for and even pedestrians we must yield the right of way for. Life is ever a one boring road. Its an exciting multi-color journey that will challenge you every step of the way and will reward you 10 times as much when you finally arrive to your destination. When we stop for a traffic light we can either whine about the one minute delay, or we can appreciate and celebrate the gift of structural system that allows us a safe ride that will ultimately get us faster to our destination.

I have 2 cats at home. If you have cats, you know they have a habit of knocking their heads against objects in order to mark their territory. I noticed that whenever they do that they first take a step back and then go full force forward. We, human do the same when we want to throw an object far away. The start point will never be 'neutral'. We will hold the object in our hand, then move our arm backwards, take one step back, and only then throw the object forward with full force. We know that the farther away we want the landing point, the farther away our step-back need to be.

So now you get why I celebrate regression??? I know that this is the INTRO to my upcoming success. When I feel I haven't progressed much with my goals, or even worse, if I took a step back from my goals, instead of thinking of it as a growing distance from my goals, instead of doubting my abilities to achieve my goals, instead of telling myself a bunch of lies that this is yet another proof that I am no good and I am just a failure, instead of focusing on why I cant, I choose to see the truth. And the truth is that I made sincere attempts to reach my goals. The truth is that I want my goals badly and I will do anything to get there. The truth is that what can be viewed as regression, may in fact just be another traffic sign that says: DETOUR. Or maybe my GPS is about to recalculate another route. Or maybe its just a traffic light and now i am about to have a nice and smooth ride with zero interruptions or challenges, straight to my point of destination. When I see regression, I can already 'smell' my upcoming success waiting for me just around the corner. And that, my dear WA friends, is a great reason to celebrate.

So lets raise a toast for regression! Lets celebrate every moment of life, including those annoying moments we have to wait for another stubborn red light that simply refuses to turn green, while we are doing absolutely nothing. Hey! We are still breathing!!
