First website launched - please give your feedback :
Hey folks
So I just launched my first website, created with the help of the basis courses available here at this awesome platform.

I have followed the advice and concentrated on a niche about a topic that I am passionate about rather than a "money-making-machine". First goal was to gain some experience creating a website with wordpress, acquiring a top level domain, writing some quality content and placing affiliate links.
I focused the website on providing an overview of useful martial art styles for self defense purposes, as well as body weight exercises and helpful nutrition. With this I layed the foundation which can be easily scaled with additional content if I feel creative enough like:
- provide in-depth reviews of martial art styles
- show self defense techniques
- display exemplary body weight exercises
etc. etc...
I am not 100% happy with the website's look and feel but I guess that is the usual state right after "go-live" and just means I have some ideas for improvement.
I am especially not too sure about the banner image, but it was the only royalty free I found which fits the banner format and has something to do with martial arts. But the resolution is not high enough for this size.
Anyway - feel free to leave your comments here or on the website - I am looking forward to your vast experience and input. I will also have a look on your website, if you want me to. From a pure rookie end-user perspective, of course ;)

You are doing great. The biggest thing that I notice right away you need some graphics showing what you are talking about. It may take some time to find what you want but that is important to allow the reader time to pause when reading your content which appears excellent.
Also you about me page really needs a picture of you! That helps develop trust. Otherwise your site is fine. It is simple and most often simple works best!

I guess I will be found hunting further pictures, then :) Not easy in this niche but I will give it another round.
I don't know if you have tried it or not, but I have a lot of success looking for what I want under bing images. It does take time to find the image that will communicate what you intent.
My biggest fear here is to use a picture which I don't actually own the rights to use - and usually would have to pay some license or royalty.
There are tools out there which allow the owners of pictures to detect websites that are using their pictures - you might end up getting sued. Maybe painting a too dark picture here, but there have been such cases. That's why I am sticking to royalty free picture databases for now. Which are of course limited.
