Not really success, but Kyle automatedly asked me to do a success post. :)

The math is pretty easy for me. Hosting alone is $108/year from HostGator. I've been using them on and off for 10+ years and I've always been happy. That makes it about $21/month to be here. I've taken more action hanging out here than I have the past year thinking about what I might do. There are other life things I have to figure out, like everyone else, but now I have the "make money online" thing sorted for the next year. I'm just gonna keep banging my head against the wall, week after week, until I make my breakthrough. :)

Week's Recap

It was harder to get as much done as I would have liked to get done this week with the holiday spilling over into Monday, but I got some things done.

There was actually a lot of things to do between writing the blog post and doing the keyword research. Also, because I'm a "perfectionist" of sorts, I wanted to do some additional research about getting my post setup just right.

Something that was stressing me out was the post slug.

If you don't know what the post slug is, it's the last part of your blog post.

What was stressing me out is that I wanted to create a "placeholder" title while I figured out what a good SEO keyword might be for the post. I did things a little backwards with my post for the lesson. Instead of starting with keyword research I decided to write my post and then update it after I did research. I also wanted to make my post live while I was doing all of this. I found a solution (and some other good tips) from this blog post.

What he suggests doing is creating an SEO friend post slug that isn't the title of the post that's related to the post content. Then you can come back and change the title without feeling like you need to change the post slug.

You basically NEVER want to change the post slug because it will eventually get ranked in Google and changing it would make it a broken link wherever there are links pointing to it.

SERIOUS WRITING

I put A LOT of work into that post. It actually took me a few days before I felt OK with publishing it and, even now, I want to do back and change some things (like the post slug!) I easily put several hours into the post. The way I see it is the better the content the better it will do in converting (sales, leads, etc.) It also increases the chances of it being shared. What I want to do is create extremely high quality content instead of a bunch of OK content targeting a lot of different keywords. I actually think both approaches are good for different reasons.

This was actually pretty cool. A guy that worked at Mozilla for 10 (and a bunch of other places) and the creator of AppAnnie (a, if not the, leader in app analytics) did talks.

I wish I could spend ALL of my time on SEO, writing, niche research, keyword research, social mediaing, etc. but... "now money" must be made! lol I got some good leads here for getting a "now money" kind of job. Ideally it will allow for lots of time doing this stuff, yoga and PS4 (with a dash of time with the lady. ;) lol )
