How to write a successful blog that gets traffic series: part 1 of 4
PURPOSE/GOAL:
I stumbled upon this great article on writing successful blogs on the internet. It has helped me greatly so I figured I should talk about it.
To get started, the first thing you need to know is the purpose of your blog/website. Having a clear sense of the purpose of your blog is absolutely necessary before you start writing.
Which of these goals could a website/blog presence accomplish over the next year?
The following 12 goals will help you to get clarity in structuring your website/blog posting:
- enable you to be found by anyone anywhere
- enhance your image
- save postage cost
- reduce staff time in answering repetitive questions
- help with processing members information
- keep in touch with what member or clients want
- carry content that would replace a newsletter
- replace or reduce the need for other publication (information, catalog, brochures etc.)
- keep the association or customer up to the minute with daily, weekly, monthly or annual development.
- circulate information out of pure altruism
- display and describe products or services or creative work
- make significant savings through sales direct from your site
Think carefully. You should be able to check at least 3 boxes. If there is no benefits from reading your blog then ask yourself, "how can your readers benefit from reading your blog?"
In case you were wondering, I choose to focus on the last 3 goals. :)
Part 2 in this series goes into the visitors benefits and how to think about it.
