2 year update

Here I am after 2 years in WA community writing an honest (even candid) update:

- 99 published posts. Hopefully 100 next week :-)

- Published 30 posts (3 times more than I did last year at the same time of year)

- More than 2000 visitors monthly

- 80% organic traffic

- 90% bounce rate...ouch!

- The posts I wrote this year are those bringing the most traffic to the site.

Profits

My Amazon affiliate experience is quite deceiving so far. I was off to a good start last year with increasing gains from June to September and a peak in November-December. To give a rough estimate, last year I was able to pay my domain name fees with my earnings.

That was pretty exciting. I was hoping for a similar curve this year.

But it dropped. Drastically.

On the other hand, Adsense is sloooowly but consistently increasing profits.

Conclusion

Was I seeing any chance to get a decent revenue in the near future? Of course not, at least not before many years. But now it's obvious that I need to change my strategy if I want to make enough money to pay the expenses of having a website.

I think what I'm experiencing is singular. Or at least I haven't heard anyone complain about suddenly not making money... I guess my path, potential revenue stream, or even niche is still not well defined. Like in Eminem's song: "Back to the lab again".

Thanks for this update! You definitely have the traffic to make something good happen if you try different strategies. Are you only using Amazon and no other affiliate options? Amazon doesn't pay as good as other specific affiliate companies

Hi Sharlita, Thanks for taking the time to reply to me :-)

You're right: Amazon does not pay well. I've tried using other affiliate programs through Commission Junction in the form of on-page ads but only Amazon and Adsense seemed to work. Never made any money with other affiliate programs. Yet.

What I like about Az is how simple it is to incorporate images in my post and add links so it doesn't look like an ad. Other companies I've used through CJ didn't provide a flexible way to promote their products other than preformatted ads (no extensive product catalog to browse, or quality resizable pictures, etc...).

I guess I'll have to look into this in a more detailed matter now. I also kind of lost faith in affiliate marketing. The fact that you need to blindly trust the vendor to give you a commission makes me uncomfortable.

I'm also thinking about creating my own products and focus future articles on selling those...I don' know yet where this is leading.

Have you got any success with big affiliate networks like CJ? Any advice you can give me is welcome :-)
