A Brave New World
It is so easy to dance around online and never really connect with anyone. We use the internet for various reasons. Often our intentions of using social media are really anything but social. Self-branding for the sake of a career or to build your business, searching for something of which most do not know what, filling the gaps between important events in life. Let me encourage you to connect with folks as you dance around on the various platforms that you use. It is so easy to just jump on here and then off again and never connect. For me, it defeats the purpose of social media. And yet let me further encourage you to be real, genuine, authentic, but reservedly so; If the authentic you is prone to go barreling over people then reign that in. Listen. Observe. Respond thoughtfully. Connect. There is no telling where this brave new world with very few boundaries will take you.

I'm afraid society is moving towards a more vapid, narcissistic, mentally ill, unfulfilled, and disingenuous state of being. There isn't any denying this. Its been observed by many. Its sad and disheartening, but this isn't to say that I (or anyone else) should just fall in line and be the company for those in misery. Gotta stick to principle and have high standards for those you let into your life all the while being friendly and gracious with all those you meet.

I really like it when people ask for thoughtful, genuine feedback. Especially when the response could challenge their own position.
Absolutely, Carl. I have made a few connections here but not that solid. Maybe because it's the Internet and distance.
Connecting with a few here is a good idea that can even be better if those you connect with are within traveling distance.
There are a couple of other WA'ers here in my area that I could connect with in that way.

I have met and made several friends here that I suspect will be lifelong friends. I have to reach out to them soon though because it has been a while since we have talked. Other than acknowledging one another's post with a like or brief comment. You cannot maintain a relationship on that for long. Thank you, Wayne, for your comment here. :0)

Thank you for your blog post-Carl, this is an interesting topic. I remember in the early days before I understood social media properly, I would often refer to "social media" as "unsocial media"! But this was partly because I didn't really understand the full concept of social media!
Social media is amazing due to the fact we can connect with people all around the world and learn from them and encourage each other. We live in a very privileged time with the Internet, there are amazing opportunities to make money and to connect with people.
