Steps to achieving your Goals
Steps to achieving your life’s Goals
These are some actions you can take that I borrowed from a talk that Napoleon Hill gave on goal setting. I’ve added my own commentary to each step. It is said that around 3% of people actually set goals and the 3% who do, make more money than the 97% combined. Then why don’t we set goals? Most of us were never taught the process. We may not understand the power of goal setting. It’s more than just a New Year’s resolution; step 1 kind of shoots those down. Start off small, with little things and practice setting and achieving goals. You’ll be astounded at the power of goals.
- 1.Make the commitment that you are going to reach the goal. To commit is to pledge or bind oneself to the goal. I also like the word resolve, which is to promise yourself you will never give up. Haven’t you noticed when you have something that absolutely has to be done you always figure out how to get it done? Do the same thing with your goals.
- 2.Commit yourself to daily detailed accountability. Have you every stopped to consider that when there’s someone looking over your shoulder you work harder to get things done? What about your goals? Aren’t you there looking over your shoulder? Take consistence daily actions and you’ll be reaching your goals before you know it.
- 3.Break your goals into smaller pieces. I’m sure you’ve heard the question, how do you eat an elephant… one bite at a time. The journey of a thousand miles begin with the first step. Break your goals down so that they are manageable, believable, not so BIG! Remember your mind needs to believe that you can accomplish your goals or you will sabotage yourself.
- 4.Get in shape physically, mentally, and spiritually. There are stories of very wealthy men whom do not take care of their health and on their death bed they have stated that they would give up everything to have their health back. Don’t wait to get in shape, in all areas of your life. Exercise your mind as well, reading, learning and rest.
- 5.Learn to respond to disappointment. Things don’t always work out the way we plan. Toughen up a bit so you aren’t devastated when things happen the wrong way. Learn to stay in the game and figure out the next move instead of wallowing in the defeat.
- 6.Discipline yourself. It’s easy to not do what you know you need to do. I’ve heard that the main difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that the successful people will do the hard things even when they don’t want to.
- 7.Choose direction not decisions. When a plane sets off from New York to Los Angeles it has to make many course changes but always makes it to its destination. Focus on the prize not on the process. The process can and will discourage you if you take your eye off the prize.
- 8.Get all the help you can, share give up goals freely and go-up goals carefully. In other words if you’re trying to lose weight, tell everyone, because they are going to get on your case if you aren’t succeeding. It’s the old, I’ll show you, mind trick. On go-up goals you want to be more selective with whom you tell so they won’t discourage you when things don’t go the way you plan. Have a few key people that you share go-up goals with that will encourage you and give you the proper motivation.
- 9.Become a team player. Sometimes we need reminded that life is a team sport. As a team member you encourage others to do their best, and you get on them when their head isn’t in the game in a supportive manner. The game will go much better when your team is all working together for the same purpose.
- 10.Paint that picture in your mind of what you want to be, do, or have. Paint a picture of your life in a manner than represents what you really want. Yes, there are things that may be next to impossible but, if someone else has done it, so may you. Your true desires are all yours, don’t deny yourself the life you were meant to live.
- 11.Your dreams can come true. You need to know that your dreams can come true. I had a teacher scold me for day dreaming in class when I was younger, I’m sure she meant well but things like that can leave scars that keep us in a place we no longer want to be.Life is about us becoming more and having more. There really is more than enough to go around. We just need to do the necessary actions to lead us to where we want to go.
Commitment + Courage + Discipline = Freedom!!

I needed this today! Mainly because I've written a book that I'm going through and I'm so bored with it! None of the material is fresh anymore so I'm struggling to go through it everyday. I have to get it finished by the end of the week though because my editor needs to start working on it and quite a few people are waiting to see their pictures in the book!
It takes a lot of dedication to write a book, but it will be worth it once I'm holding it in my hands!
Every Goal is achievable but we have to learn how to set Goals first..
Yes and Yes Commitment, Courage, Discipline are essential to reach the life of freedom we are all looking for. .Thanks Calvin for Your Great Comment !!
