The Writer's Mindset
I named my website "read yourself" because I believe that strong writing comes from a strong sense of self, both growing with experience. Awareness of how you feel, strong empathy towards others along with knowledge of how to describe the world with brevity and eloquence contributes to writing poetry. There are many facets to writing poetry; I believe Edgar Allan Poe's unity of effect puts it best: every facet of a poem should help create a single emotional impact.

This is something I am very passionate about: you can choose whether to write for an audience or not. It is my belief that writing for the audience will make you a better poet in the long run. This disciplines the writer and sharpens the mind as the people around you show you your strengths and weaknesses; it is important to receive constructive criticism.
