Fired Again.
Accountants should not invest in restaurants
Well it seems that if my restaurant career is going to continue it might have to be as an owner again. I began bartending at this pizza place at this out door amphitheater in town. I had such high hopes for it but after 2 weeks our chef was fired, and after 2 months our GM quit, I opened up to the owner who said she agreed with virtually everything that I put in my lengthy emails. A couple weeks later I am fired, because of blatant nepotism. I have learned in restaurants it will never work out if you care more than the people higher up the food chain.
After using my some 30 years in the restaurant business to access and present problems to this persons restaurant investment I get shown the door and am fired because the owners Niece and first time manager does not know what she is doing and me pointing it out to her and her Aunt ended up being my downfall.
Since the Niece's baby daddy could not get a job elsewhere so he started working with her, about a week before the GM quit. When that happened the owner thought well I will just promote the Bar Manager who had taken over the Chef role, he belonged in the kitchen, no personality and really a bad bar manager and there for a horrible General Manager. Did I mention the owner thought it would be a great idea to take a month long vacation to Italy a couple weeks after opening.
Restaurants are a relationship business more than anything and accountants don't get that and that is why accountants should not invest in restaurants. It is not so much a numbers game as it is a relationship game, both with staff and guests. I told the owner that the best marketer for Brixx would be her, that people like to say they know the owner, but she is still living several states away, nothing kills a restaurant faster than absentee ownership.
Because I had higher standards than the management staff and owner I was fired again. I am glad I have been working on my websites building skills here at WA, now putting things into action, I do want to own my own concept now its time to achieve what is there to grasp with effort and determination.

What is the name of the restaurant? It sounds like their reputation is going to plummet if it hasnt already
100% agree that restaurants are all about interaction, relationships, and networking. I'm a full time restaurant employee, a server or bartender depending on the shift. I love the industry, but agree that if no one else cares or takes pride in the product or service, then it is destined to fail. Keep your head high, you'll find the place where you belong, or just start your own and let me know if you need investors! ;) Best of Luck!
