The Brilliance and Affection of a Horse.

As some of you may know, I love Horses! Having raised and shown them for over 20 years, they have been, and still are, a big part of my life.

In this blog today, I want to touch on the Brilliance and Affection of a Horse.

Approximately ten years ago, I owned a big 17-hand gelding by the name of VanGogh. He was a beautiful big boy that my daughter showed for a number of years.

At the time we were living in the city, so he was being boarded out at a public stable. It was a great facility, with a big indoor arena where we could work our horses regularly.

It was about a 5-6 mile drive out to the stable, in a beautiful setting in the country. Generally, (especially during show season), we would go out on a daily basis.

As I mentioned, this was a public stable, so there were a number of horse owners who were showing their horses. This meant a lot of traffic, in and out of the stable during the day and into the evening hours.

This one particular evening, I was making my way out to the stable after work. As I walked into the barn, several other horse owners proceeded to tell me, that they knew I was on my way.

Of course I asked them why. They began to tell me that VanGogh was standing quietly in his stall, when all of a sudden a good 5-7 minuets before I arrived, he started to pace and do circles in his stall.

A few of the people commented, when he started to get excited like this, that I must be on my way! Sure enough I was.

I was always amazed by this. Reason being because, at that time of the day, there is lots going on in the barn and a lot of noise. And yet through all the hustle and bustle of horses being groomed and worked, and people conversing and laughing etc. VanGogh could hear the sound of my vehicle from way down the road.

The Brilliance of a Horse! Wow.. we underestimate them so many times.

Of course, when l arrived he was more than happy to see me! He was always the type of horse who loved attention, and was very Affectionate. Always in your pocket sort to speak!

He loved his treats, ( as most all do) but, he was a talker as well. I always thought and believed, he was just saying Thankyou, over and over again in his “ horse language” to me.

He loved to go to work too. He and my daughter were a great team in the English pleasure, and Equatation divisions.

Just thought I would share one of my many happy experiences over the years, that I’ve had in raising and owning show horses.

It truly is a passion of mine, and they have enriched my life beyond words.

Have a great day and weekend.

Cal.

Horses are truly special.

They really are! Thanks for the comment.

Have a great day.

Hey, It seems that certain animals have certain instincts about certain things. Most animals are smarter than humans give them credit for.

Hi agreed! Thanks for the comment.

Hope your weekend is going well.

Thank you for sharing. Horses seem to know more than people in some ways. Many animals have attributes people don't understand.
