Slow and Steady Wins The Race?

It's been a bit! I wanted to try and blog once a week, but...well, things happen. In this case, the eleven-month-old learning to walk and being all over everything. I've just been collapsing most nights once she's in bed, not making half the progress I was before.

But the wonderful thing about this business is that it progresses without me, at least a little bit. I've barely managed to post once a week on the actual reviews blog, but I keep getting notifications that another page has gotten ranked in Google. I'm not on the front page anywhere yet, but it's just a matter of time. I've got some affiliate links here any there, and now my project is to go back and add product reviews for everything I mention in my main blog posts.

I'm still not happy with the look of the website and I'm trying to decide how much that matters. I don't want to waste a bunch of time on busywork, but on the other hand, the website is the entire business model and so should look as good as possible. It doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look professional, and professional is what I need. I am trying to strike the balance between trustworthy expert reviewer and personable mom who's passing on her mom knowledge, which is a weird balance to strike. I'm hoping to spend some time on it over the weekend, but that's increasingly difficult.

I also had a difficult time getting Google Analytics installed, so I've been spending all this time with almost no idea how my site is doing, which is anxiety-inducing. I finally managed to get it all set up (it was my own dumb fault for doing things out of order), and so hopefully I'll be able to get some instant gratification in terms of number of visitors (or alternatively, see exactly how badly I've been failing).

I also got my first click-through on an affiliate link! No sale...but a click! That's something! Somebody read one of my reviews and thought they would at least consider buying the monitor I recommended. Maybe it was one of you all, but that's still something. I've visited plenty of sites from people here, but it still takes an extra amount of persuading to actually spend my hard-earned money on something that's being recommended. So that gives me hope that maybe I'm on the cusp of something here.

For now, I'm planning on filling in as much content as possible over the next week or so. After that I have a couple of other niches I want to look into, at which point I'll slow down to posting on BVM once a week until I feel like I'm out of keywords, at which point I'll start revising old posts to be even stronger. After that...I don't know, maybe the site can be left alone and run on autopilot, with maybe an annual update when new models are released? That'll be a nice day, when I can let the website be all grown up and only check in with it every now and then.

Slow and steady wins the race, that's what I say. Keep moving forward at your own pace. You are doing great.

Exactly, Kirsten ... take the long view!

Pay attention to all your small successes as they occur, and always be willing to experiment and tweak the way you do things.

Keep up all your hard work (and super attitude!).

- And good luck with your new online business!
