Very cool Bradley! Setting goals is an important step because it keeps you focused, so I'm glad you decided to fill out the questions. I remember when I started, my goal was to earn an average American wage while I was working in China. I was very surprised when it actually worked, and then I went far beyond that first goal.

Your goals are absolutely realistic, and with consistent effort + the help of the Wealthy Affiliate Community, you are going to start seeing some surprising results!

Greetings and CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS on becoming a WA Premium Member! This is fantastic news and the best step forward in the right direction! I've been here for about 7 weeks and I want to encourage you to follow the training as closely as you can! Kyle and Carson have spent a lot of time showing us at WA the basis for a great foundation for us to build our businesses!

After joining with a premium membership myself, I devoted a lot of time to get through the training, researching, asking questions, and am happy with my results so far. I would like to encourage you to commit whatever time you can muster to building your foundation. You won't be disappointed.

If you have a minute and would like to read one of my latest WA blog posts outlining my first 30 days as a premium member, you may find it on my profile page! :)

Wishing you all the best!
To YOUR success!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Thank you for reaching out. I think it is going pretty well so far. Just finished watching the Choose a Niche lesson video and I think that has seemed like the most daunting part to me. One focus that came to mind during the video was tennis rackets. Is this something far too broad, too narrow, or something I could potentially work with?
Reply
nathaniell Premium
I think tennis rackets might be too narrow, but it can work for a start. It just depends on what you want to learn a lot about as you build your website. For sure, a tennis racket site COULD make money, but would you want to spend a lot of time researching and writing about that?

If you don't have any other ideas, that one can absolutely work. See what Kyle does in this post: If you want to broaden up your niche, you could do something like "improve your tennis swing for hobbyist tennis players" or something like that. Focusing on the people would be the direction I would go.

Let me know what you think Bradley!

I had thought about tennis in general as an option, but didn't know if that was too broad. Tennis is something my family did often growing up, which I still enjoy a lot and plan to play with my children. I'm still trying to grasp how the money-making and topic blends. The small niche example of the snack helmets almost seems more like a review site, but "Improving your tennis swing" seems much more instructional than product based. I am open to the idea, just not quite connecting how to monetize that focus.

Snack helmets is the exception - not the rule. It's great to look at for what is possible with online marketing, but most people will have to build a website that involves writing content, tutorials, reviews, etc.

With "improve your tennis swing", you can promote tennis rackets, for sure. Some rackets will have different strengths, quality, materials, price points, etc. You can also promote wearable gear, for someone with joint issues, or perhaps an at-home training device. You could maybe promote something from this page: https://www.usta.com/en/home/improve/gear-up.html

Also, just a funny thing. While investigating this stuff, I ran into this website: https://www.optimumtennis.net/tennis-forehand-tips.htm

If you scroll to the bottom, it says, "Click Here to Improve Your Tennis", then leads to a blank page. The low-quality user experience means there's opportunity for YOU to make something better. There's always opportunities online, even in competitive areas :)

Thank you for this advice. Now for stuff like the wearable gear and stuff like tennis rackets at different price points, is this all stuff I would need to use to write about? Or is it sufficient to do a lot of research into stuff like the materials?
Reply
nathaniell Premium
It really depends on what angle you want to go at, and what interests you. Your site will be full of different types of content, so you could potentially do both. Here's an example:

Title: How To Improve Your Tennis Swing Even If You Have An Injured Writes
Product Link: Wrist Guard

Title: How Carbon Fiber Rackets Can Improve Anyone's Tennis Swing
Product: Carbon Fiber Tennis Racket

Those articles would require you write content, explain the topic, show tutorials, have discussion, etc. The products you could do as a #1 recommendation, or perhaps a top 3. They are just examples of how different products can be recommended in the same niche. Just depends on what you're writing about.

These conversations are helping me a lot to get an idea what it will look like. The main question I still have is do I need to purchase and try out any item I am recommending or how does that work? Do you think I am at a point where I can continue working through the lessons of beginning to build the site?
Reply
nathaniell Premium
You don't have to purchase a product to review it, but it can help. It depends on how you want to write the content.

As a reviewer, you can take the angle of, "I bought and tried this", or you can take the angle of "I'm an expert and here's my objective opinion based on the facts". Both can work.

I dig into many styles of reviewing products here: More on that here: Kyle also talks about how to create awesome content, without being a "certified" expert. And more on the topic of becoming an expert here: Of course, if you actually buy the product and try it, you then have unique experience that no one else has. You aren't just consolidating information already online. You are CREATING new content. Plus, if you take original pictures and videos, that's incredibly valuable, and can go a long way to helping you establish a trusted brand online.

Going back to this as I prepare to build my first website by selecting a name. It feels like a daunting task because I don't want to pick a name that I don't really like in a few weeks. With the direction you are suggesting here, would "improve your tennis swing" be the title of the website or just the focus?
Reply
nathaniell Premium
A domain name won't make or break a website - it's a matter of personal preference. You can choose a brandable domain name that's catch and easy to remember, or a keyword based domain name, which is more descriptive and may rank better for that one specific keyword. The majority of your "rank" and traffic will come from individual pages, so the exact domain you choose is a very small part of the website building process.

I have done both, with success! Personally, I prefer to have a brandable, short domain name because it's easier to remember and shorter in the search engines!

You can basically get any domain URL you want using this trick as well, in case you had some other ideas you though but they were not available:

bweller23 Premium
Thank you for these suggestions for a domain name. While I am at work tomorrow as I have opportunities I am going to try to think a lot about what I want to focus on. As I look at some sites, it just seems that many others have a lot more experience regarding tennis products. I like to play a lot and have with family, but I feel like I would have to gain a lot of information from others to recommend much.

Everyone starts as a beginner. Believe it or not, I started out in exactly your position 9 years ago. Becoming successful at this isn't about doing things 100% right the first time around. It's more about committing the daily time and energy to learning, making mistakes, and trying again.

You can definitely do this Bradley, but you do have to be consistent and believe in yourself!

I will just bite the bullet and make something in the next day or two. My work week started so I have gotten a lot busier, but I will get back to it.

I just had a niche come to me that I think is very unusual, but it's very interesting to me as I think about comparing options. I can still go the tennis swing route if you think I'd be better off that direction. The area that came to mind was professional team steering wheel covers and could branch into other hot/cold accessories.
Reply
nathaniell Premium
That is a cool idea. My advice would be to expand to something like "professional team accessories for your car". The steering wheel stuff you can definitely do as part of that, but I think you'll run out of things to say if that's all you do.

You can absolutely start with just the steering wheel covers, I just mention the other stuff so that you can name your domain name appropriately. I say go for it!
Reply
bweller23 Premium
I'm going to go with the steering wheel and other accessories definitely for my first website. When you put it in quotes, are you suggesting that as the domain name or just refining the focus? This week has been very crazy so I will probably finally be able to get my site rolling tomorrow night. I'm planning to go ahead with the discounted first month of premium as well before the timer runs out.

Just the focus. The domain name you can brainstorm tomorrow night when you have more time.

Alright. I actually thought about building it last night, but I didn’t want to before I let you respond to that message. Tonight I’ll have a website with some name.

No problem Bradley. I can definitely help out!

Kyle has spent some time breaking down the process in the most simplistic way possible. Success online is at the core a 4 step process and he have broken them down within this video: Broken, down, the process looks like this:

Step 1: Choose your niche
Step 2: Build your website/content
Step 3: Get rankings in search engines (leads to traffic)
Step 4: Monetize your traffic

This applies in absolutely every niche and as you work through the training here at WA, you are going to be walked through this exact process. This is fundamental for ANY success online.

As you go through the training here you are going to learn the process of creating a business online. I look forward to seeing your business come together.

If you have any further questions let me know Bradley.
