Day 44: Bounce Rate Is 0%? What's Going On?
As usual, I hadn't intended to blog again today until I noticed something strange in my Google Analytics.
As of right now, my site has a exact flat 0% bounce rate.
To be honest, I'm not sure if there's some kind of technical issue going on here? Is it possible to achieve a 0% bounce rate or is there something funny going on behind the scenes?
So, should this be a success post or another ticket to sitesupport?
Looking forward to hear what you think.
Benji

This graph diagram, which makes people crowded in mind and mind, is optimistic what is pessimistic, my work?
Do not be serious in responding to my friend's comments, this is a bit I imagine something in digital is not that I mean, I'm going to have a serious discussion with you, later I'm in preparation
Ha ha ha..no problem guest,I think I'm currently upset ..., so many desires, but at this time I'm not sorry, Friends
I just like being able to see an accurate figure so I get a better idea of how well I'm retaining users. If I think I'm doing really well because it's zero when in reality it should be up at 30, 40%, I'd rather know!
That's a new one... haven't seen that before. Have you drilled down to see user behavior and flow? I zero might be theoretically possible if every user visits more pages on your site without dropping off or hitting the back button. If that's the case... I need to know your secret. How are you keeping them on your site? :-D

Yeah that’s a good suggestion, I’ll go back and check the behaviour flow for the last 7 days- the bounce rate is for the last 7 too.
I’ll let you know but I will be more than a bit confused if the behaviour flow reports drop offs after 1 visit whilst the bounce rate says 0%
It’s not like google analytics to contradict itself like that.
Hi, Benji...I've never seen a site with ZERO % bounce rate. I didn't think such a situation was possible...
That’s what has me confused. Google analytics is usually pretty bang on though. Don’t really know what’s happened here.
I don't really know what to say. I'd lie low for a couple of days to see if remains like this, unless you wish to give support a quick shout about it
Im following to see what others say. I thought the lower the bounce rate the better but I am new at this and not sure.
Yeah that's right! Low bounce rate is a great thing, that's why it seems so unusually good to be at a complete 0%

Hi Benjamin,
Well, there are more possible reasons ...
1. Bounce rate = % of users who did not consume more than the first page (their landing page) on your site.
In other words, if every single user consumed more than that specific page (visiting another page too), literally speaking you can have 0% bounce rate
But is very unlikely, especially with 199 sessions.
2. If there are any redirects to or from the page (created by you purposely or by a plugin automatically) there could be a tracking problem which is causing an artificial figure
3. If the page is associated with a GA event (e.g. opening in a new tab), at the moment of arrival two hits are sent: one page view and one event. Therefore, when Google Analytics calculates these visits it has two interactions for each of them which means not a single visit is treated as a bounce.
4. If you have any third party code inserted in that page that also could be a reason. Sometimes GA doesn't play well with others :)
In my opinion the most likely reason: an event code firing automatically when the page loads
Yeah, that sounds most likely.
What's the best way to check for each of these scenarios? I have absolutely no idea how I'd figure out which of those it is.
Could it be related at all to a pop up? IE an email list pop up?
That's the only thing that came to my mind!
Thanks for the detailed explanation, looks like I'll have to look a bit further into it.
All those mentioned scenarios can be investigated in GA (and Search Console)
And regarding the popup issue: yes, that could be an event IF the popup is on the given page and if you started to get these figures AFTER using the popup
Okay. How can I check them in Google Analytics?
I can't remember exactly but bounce rate has definitely gone down since, all the way to the zero today.
Thanks.
Wow Benjamin,
I should give you an answer with a few thousands words to describe each step and possibility ...
I'll have to ask you to Google it ... Focus on page redirects, events and third party codes ...
Sorry :(
Is it that complicated, or was that a joke? Now I'm worried...
I'll see what I can do. Thanks :)
No it wasn't a joke and no it isn't that complicated ...
But describing each GA menu, step, possible messages, etc on events, redirects, etc is just not possible here within our WA messages
Okay. I'm looking into it as we speak.
Will be a good learning experience!
BTW Are we talking about your homepage or another post/page?
