Build a blog. That's how the online business model that is taught here at Wealthy Affiliate works, with blogs. A website is a more static web property, just like a brochure or a flyer.

Start your training to learn more and why.

Oh yes.... The training! That's the very reason I joined but I got so caught up my first day as a member reading everyone's posts and informational articles that my mind started racing:) Thank you for answering my question. Have a great day!

I completely understand where you're coming from. As Steve Jobs put it: "stay hungry, stay foolish", those questions are more than natural. :)

Thank you to all who answered. I will probably make a choice to do a blog or a post once I get through some of the training. I really appreciate the support!

That decision is completely up to you. Any website can, but doesn't necessarily need to, have a blog as part of it. (WA training emphasizes blogging as a major part of your site.)

The blog page of a website contains your series of posts arranged in reverse chronological order and is called your "blog roll". Optionally, the blog roll can be put on your site's home page or on another page that you designate.

If you choose not to have a blog on your site, you would create articles which would be placed on the pages of your site.

There are quite a number of articles listed under "posts versus pages" (see below)

I would choose to create a blog as your homepage with all of your website pages on the same site. Blogs can easily serve as websites. All of my 'sites' are blogs but then I love to write, take pictures and have fresh, engaging content for my readers. The choice is truly yours! - Joy

In my opinion all websites should start as a blog. Your goal is to corner a niche and have a lot of content about it. As you blog more and more you amass more and more followers. It is much easier to get people to come visit your blogsite than it is to get them to come visit your website. As you build your presence you can change your blog to a full revenue building website

Seems like you will need a bit of both but I don't know what you want to put on your own website and how you will be monetising it.

If you haven't yet, go through the training materials and create content as required by the exercises. You can always make changes later.

I purchased my domain name prior to joining wealthy affiliate. Can I use it or do I have to purchase a domain name from you? Also, which tab should I select to set up my websit

You can use your domain bought elsewhere together with the hosting here at WA. And you can make use of Wealthy Affiliate hosting as well. Just click that big blue SiteRubix button you see on the left menu and follow the directions in the trainings people here have already shared with you. :)

Thank you! I will check it out!

As a premium member, you can host up to 25 sites using domain names that you own. You can definitely use a domain that you've purchased at godaddy. You'll need to point the "nameserver" settings for the domain to WA's hosting servers.

Are you familiar with how to do this? If not, there is WA training available here: [added]
I forgot to mention -- In addition to hosting up to 25 domains with names you've purchased, you can also host up to 25 siterubix subdomain sites at no cost at all.

Thanks a million!!

Thank you! I just did it following the link you sent. I don't have a host. Should I get the hosting from WA?

sure, you're premium, so take advantage of WA hosting. Not necessary to, but it's there for you. I'd go for it.
