Blog #2 - My progress so far

So, I joined WA back in October. My first (and so far only) website has been live for a while, but I only just made the social media accounts and really started trying to get people to see it a few days ago.

On the one hand I'm really proud of my site. I spent a long time putting it together and making it look the way I want. I think it came out really well, and it's a subject I know a lot about, so I know I can keep the articles going strong for a long time.

On the other hand, I'm afraid I may have chosen a niche that's too small. It's a growing community that I've been a part of for years, and the reception from those in the community has been great. As the community continues to grow, I hope and plan on growing my site to match.

For the time being however, I think I'm ready to start a second site. I'm glad that my first site is one that I have a personal connection to, but I think with my next site I'm going to choose a niche that's a little more broad. I feel like I'm in a good spot where I can keep my first website up to date and continue growing it with a few posts and updates per week, and still have time left over to focus on another site.

Now my only thoughts are on what niche to choose. Like everybody here at WA, I'm trying to find the perfect balance of not so broad a topic that I never get ranked in Google, but not so narrow that I can't bring in enough traffic. My mind keeps going back to the example site Kyle used in one of the early trainings. It was a site all about football snack helmets - a product that costs enough that each commission is significant and will really add up over time. Many people actually search for snack helmets to have at their football parties, yet it's so specific that no other site dedicated solely to football snack helmets exists. I'm looking for something like that.

The next time you read a blog post by me I'll have 2 sites up and running! Thanks for reading and happy affiliate marketing!

I am sure you already do this but suggest spending as much time on Jaaxy as you can, it always opens the niche floodgates for me. You can really drill down niches and see what traffic they might bring in. I hope you find a great niche with tons of traffic and very little competition!

Even though Kyle talks about how important Jaaxy is all the time in the training, that's actually a really good suggestion. I don't use Jaaxy as depth as I should, but that's definitely the best way to find a good niche.

What’s your first niche? If you don’t mind me asking.
I’m in the opposite site of the coin. My niche is Makeup and Beauty and it’s huge. So trying to narrow down here. After I finalize get traffic coming in.

Ninja warrior. A lot of people have seen the show but don’t realize how quickly it’s growing as a sport. The show actually started in Japan and now has iterations in almost 40 different countries, and ninja gyms are popping up all over the place in all major first world countries. I’ve been a coach at a popular ninja gym for the last 3 years, and I know a lot of the major competitors from ANW, so it seemed like a good idea since their aren’t many sites dedicated to just the sport outside of the television shows, but the community is only a few 10,000 deep, which really isn’t as big as it might sound. My site is thesportofninja.com

I love to watch that show! Sounds like a great niche too!

I checked out your website! Really nice and informative. Did you use a special program to put all your social media sites at the top of your page? It’s great how they go straight to your social media pages without having to sign in. Very nice!

Thanks! I use the Ultimate Social Media Icons PLUS plugin. It's free. I wasn't able to get the email list feature to work, and had to use a different plugin for that, but besides that it's really simple and effective!

The crazy thing is that the ninja community is actually way bigger than just the reality competition TV shows that most people know about. The shows are great, but they are so selective about who gets to compete, and the deciding factor is usually more about how inspiring your story is and how big your personality is, not how good you actually are on the course. Outside of the shows that take place in various countries, their are a few governing bodies for ninja competitions open to everyone. The most popular is the National Ninja League (NNL), where you earn points at qualifying competitions all over the country at approved ninja gyms, and the top 3 competitors that haven't qualified yet qualify for world finals. The regular NNL season 4 just ended, and national finals will be in Hartford CT this year in about a month.
