Is there a plugin that can be used to create a virtual room experience on a page?

Is there any way that I can make my website inaccessible for a specific day out of the week?
Like an out of office day where it would display something like:
We Don't Wo
Why not just put your 'Business hours' somewhere easily seen by all visitors - e.g. a widget in the sidebar - and invite them to leave a message for you with a promise to get back to them as soon as possible..?
That keeps your website available for visitors 24/7 and lets them register their interest in your offering so you can get back to them when you're available.
Cheers,
Martin.
That is a great and pretty simple idea. Love it. Similar to the notification bar as was suggested by Mark.
The only thing is that it does not prevent the customer from shopping on the site which is what I don't want. The payments will still be processed and I have no control over that.
I have used the icegram plugin which allows notification bar and it works. Only issues is with the location where people in different time zones will see the pop-up on different dates.
Don't know if an IP locator plugin exists that could address this.
If you need different opening times displayed based on where the visitor is located, then you need a bit of Javascript that looks at the time according to the clock on the visitor's computer and presents your opening times based on that - i.e. a different set of opening hours depending on the time on the computer clock.
Alternatively you could state your timezone against your opening times and leave them displayed 24/7.
Integrating that JS with a plugin would not be the best way to do it - better to do it manually by adding it to a text widget.
However, you're then going to get someone visiting your site from the opposite side of the world and they're going to see that the only time they can make a purchase is 1 o'clock in the morning, so you'll be losing business.
The point of doing business online is that your website works for you 24/7..!
Cheers,
Martin.
I think for now I have settled on leaving it open for purchases 24/7. Someday when I have free time. I'll get a good method to better implement it. It's too much of a hassle right now.
I know large companies that set up their sites this way to not allow sales matching location correctly.
I don't work on Sabbaths so all funds made on those days I'll just donate to church or a worthy cause.
Thanks for your help much appreciated.
You will probably want to use some sort of Conditional re-direct
.. along the lines of:
IF (logical-expression) THEN
statements-1
ELSE
statements-2
END IF
Ie:
IF (day=Sunday) THEN
Go To HomePage2
ELSE
Go To HomePage
END IF
***Note: There is most likely a WP Plug-in that will do this easily for you ***
I wouldn't recommend it. If google tries to index your page on the day its not accessible it will probably hurt your rankings.
You might be better of installing notification bar plugin or something similar
I installed the WP Shabbat plugin but it has additional features that I do not want automatically showing the message for some Jewish
holidays.
I was told google bot would get a 503 signal to know that it is just for the day and they should check back

What do you think about writing a review for an affiliate program that has been shut down and is no longer in operation? Will I still receive searches in Google or would people
Why not put that energy and time into a program that is alive. You can review if you think people need help in that area and are still searching for it. Should they need related products or services, would you be able to direct them to those products?
Hey Nichole,
What I did with my site was share information that was hard for me to find. Seriously!
Providing information on programs that no longer exist would come under historical and may not do as well.
Even my hobby site (genealogy or family history) is not as popular as the site where I share info that I've discovered that is not as well known or shared out there on the internet.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks, Trish. I guess out with the old and in with the new is the thing. Good idea sharing the not yet discovered or popular.
I find that everyday affiliate programs are shutting down even if someone had written a review on the product.
There are lots of affiliate products offered through Clickbank and Amazon products you could use.
Even if the Amazon product were to be sold out, I'm sure the link would lead to similar products being sold on Amazon, making the review still relevant.

If I choose a domain name with a - and my site does not have it in the official name, does it make a difference?
For example
site name= smart love<
It still shows up as smart love, so no it won't matter. You definitely don't want to use the " - " in your site title either.
