About BrianManning
Joined April 2016
I currently have a job which involves flying a tremendous amount of time. At first it was exciting and glamorous but that was before I had a family!

What it means now is that I am away from my wife and child (see the image, doesn't he look cute!!!) for half the year!

I am desperate to find a solution that will allow me to work from home, cut down on the flying and still earn a decent wage. I spent time searching on the internet and everything I found sounded like a scam.

This was the first place that didn't, so I am giving it a go!!!!

No idea what I am doing yet - literally just starting!

Would you mind having a peek at my site and telling me what you think of it, what you think about the first post (the second is halfway through) and what you think about the pages. Site is looking good thus far, I like the theme choice. I do have a bit of feedback though:

(1) You should be adding feature images to all of your posts. You can do this within the post editor for each post that you create, down the right hand side below the tags you will see the option to upload a feature image (see attached image for reference)

This will add an image beside your content snippet on your blog roll which makes your blog roll much more visual.

(2) Be thorough with your content. Quality content is content that is helpful and often times means it being thorough.

With each page or post you create on your website, people should come to it and feel as they have gotten the help/information that they were looking for and it was presented in a way that was interesting.

(3) I recommend that you use more visuals within your content. Most people are visual by nature and when you create content, you should have associated images that reflect what you are talking about.

This will lead to more engagement, a higher reader rate, and as a result, more conversions.

Excellent start though. I know you are going to love Premium and I look forward to working with you Brian. :)
Reply
BrianManning Premium
Thanks. Would you mind having a look again and telling me what you think?

With regards to your second comment, do you feel that so far it is not thorough?

One final question. On the About Me and Healthy Eyes pages, I put a photo right at the top across the whole page. Is that ok?

Thanks

Brian

Kyle Premium
It's pretty good, just a little more elaborate with your content. I would not be too concerned at this point. Changes look good. You ideally want your images to be within the content versus a huge image that goes across the top of the page (which might detract from the content).

EyesOfHealth.com might be a cool and brandable domain. I would avoid the hyphentated option, but I think something like that would work and remember, you are not tied to your original domain...it is very easy to rebrand your site however you want (will literally take 5 minutes to make the appropriate updates) so don't let that dictate your decision making here.

I think I will take your advice. I didn't realize I could change my domain name if I need to. It does sound quite catchy (although I am not sure about the Grammar!)

Hi Kyle,
I haven't bothered you for a while!
I wonder if I could get some direction from you on a number of issues:

1) I am well into your Course 3. I would now like to add affiliate links to my site, specifically this page http://eyesofhealth.com/over-counter-allergy-medicine

I have a total of 4 posts and a few pages. I am not yet indexed on google (despite some low hanging fruit keywords, setting up on google analytics and webmaster tools and submitting sitemaps with both google and bing). Can I place affiliate links before I am indexed or do I have to wait until I am indexed?

2) What ratio of non affiliate link posts to affiliate link posts would you recommend?

3) In the page above where I am essentially reviewing 6 products, should I put a link and a picture link for each product (meaning there will be 12 links) or should I just put a link at the end for the page that sells all of the products (e.g. antihistamine tablets)

4) I am finding that it takes me ages to write a post. This could be partially because I am a perfectionist but also maybe because I am dealing with things that are medical and I want to make sure I am getting everything correct. Do you have any tips on this?

Thanks!

Brian

Hi Brian,

In response to your issues here:

1) I am well into your Course 3. I would now like to add affiliate links to my site, specifically this page http://eyesofhealth.com/over-counter-allergy-medicine

I have a total of 4 posts and a few pages. I am not yet indexed on google (despite some low hanging fruit keywords, setting up on google analytics and webmaster tools and submitting sitemaps with both google and bing). Can I place affiliate links before I am indexed or do I have to wait until I am indexed?

Yes, you can. I would not rush it though, what benefit is there adding affiliate links now other than the IDEA of having them on your site. If you don't have traffic at this point, there is little benefit to doing so. You will get there within Level 3 of the training, it will walk you through this.

2) What ratio of non affiliate link posts to affiliate link posts would you recommend?

You typically want to centralize your affiliate links within reviews, this is going to all be covered in Level 3 of the training.

3) In the page above where I am essentially reviewing 6 products, should I put a link and a picture link for each product (meaning there will be 12 links) or should I just put a link at the end for the page that sells all of the products (e.g. antihistamine tablets)

Yeah, if you are doing a "Top 6" sort of page you can definitely do this. Or you could create posts for each of these products and have their own review pages and link to these reviews from your post.

4) I am finding that it takes me ages to write a post. This could be partially because I am a perfectionist but also maybe because I am dealing with things that are medical and I want to make sure I am getting everything correct. Do you have any tips on this?

Here is how I go about efficiently architecting and writing content: I think this will offer you a lot of insight in terms of how you go about writing (and will lead to more efficiency). Hope this helps you out here. :)

Hi Kyle,

I have applied to join affiliate window which has a few online pharmacies connected to it.

They emailed me the following questions:

1. How do you intend to promote our retailers

2. How will you drive traffic?

3. Can you list all of the advertisers that you intend to promote

Can you please ensure that you provide examples with your explanation, such as links to existing campaigns.

As I am so new to this I am not sure what I should answer!? I don't think it would be sensible to say I don't know I am just following Kyle's training on WA!

Any thoughts?

1. How do you intend to promote our retailers

Through an authority blog/website.

2. How will you drive traffic?

SEO, social media, PPC.

3. Can you list all of the advertisers that you intend to promote

You would list the ones off that you are interested in.

Hope this helps you out here Brian.

I have chosen Healthy Eyes as my niche and also as my website name. I know a lot about eyes already and it gives me several different things to connect to, e.g. dry eye treatment and hayfever drops as well as nutrition for the eye. I hope it isn't too big a subject though
Reply
Kyle Premium
Awesome Brian, that is a really cool niche and one that I think is very brandable. Definitely go for it and you can keep things more specific when starting out (cover a more targeted area of the eye space) and then diversify as you see fit.
Reply
BrianManning Premium
Great! I am going to focus on allergy as it is the hayfever season. At some point in the future I can look at other things

Hi Kyle,

While I know this is a business for you, I also want to tell you how much I appreciate the effort you put in to each person on here.

I am currently in lesson 9 and writing my About Me page. I have a slight problem that I hope you can help me with.

I am a qualified Optometrist and feel that it would be a sensible thing to write on my About Me page with regards to Healthy Eyes. It gives an added level of 'authority' in what I am advising.

However I cannot put my full name nor do I feel I can put a photo of me there. This is because within the field of optometry some of the things that I will be doing (especially advising people on alternative medicine solutions and also giving people advice or direction without actually seeing their eyes) will be frowned apon and could even cause me problems with my license!

I would therefore like to mention just my first name and not put a photo of me, but to mention I am an optometrist.

Do you think this would be acceptable?

I could put a photo of a swollen, sore eye instead as I do feel it needs an image.

Could you look at the About Me page on Healthyeyes on site.rubix (I can't leave the link as I am not a premium yet!) and tell me what you think

Thanks again!!!

Brian
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, that would be fine. You could even use a catchy pen name if you wanted on your website Brian, if you are an expert you can portray yourself as one, but you want to do whatever you are comfortable with. So totally up to you.

I see sometimes people use a caricature of themselves and there are free tools online that would allow you to do this. Sometime that you may want to consider down the road.

If you want me to take a look at your website, post it like this:

yoursite.siterubix

And I will fill in the rest and offer you some feedback. :)
Reply
BrianManning Premium
Thanks for all your advice. I will try and find a photo of sore eyes for the moment.

Please have a look at healthyeyes.siterubix and tell me what you think

I have not added any posts yet apart from about me, but hopefully over the next few days I will start to post
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, I wouldn't panic about this at all. Definitely off and running with your website here Brian, I like your initial design and your about me page. :)

Hi Kyle,

Another day, another few questions for you!! I am ready and excited to get things going!

1) I have an intense amount of stuff to write. I feel that if I break it up into smaller sections, each one a separate post with a slightly different keyword it would be both more readable and create more traffic etc. So e.g. when talking about eye allergies I can have one post on antihistamines, one on mast cell stabilizers, one on the difference between them, one on alternative options, one on preventing the allergy in the first place etc. etc.

However I want a visitor to be able to see where on my website to find this other information. Can I put links to my other posts at the bottom of each post or is this not a good thing?

Alternatively can I make a Page which would be called Eye Allergies and on that page have a list of links to different posts that deal with different things?

2) I am in the UK. Therefore I can only join Amazon Associates in the UK. When I link a product it therefore goes to the UK site. Will this cause a problem for US customers? Will they be less likely to buy from the link?

Thanks!

Brian
Reply
Kyle Premium
1. Keywords are the premise of all of your content. Ideally you will be finding keywords with a lower competition (also known as QSR) because it means that you are going to be competition with less websites in Google when you go to create your content.

You want your keyword to meet the following criteria:

(1) Must be lower than 200 QSR initially, as you get more authority in search engines you can tackle more competitive search terms.
(2) Must get some traffic, I ideally aim for over 50 searches per month
(3) Must make grammatical sense

Once you have your keyword, you are going to create a page or a post on your website targeting that keyword. It should be within the following places in your content:

(1) Somewhere in the page/post title
(2) Somewhere within the first paragraph

And then write your content naturally and make sure it is engaging. People search "keywords" when they are looking for something so as you start getting ranked under these keywords, you are going to start to see traffic.

Once you have traffic...you have a ton of opportunity to generate revenue.

2. You can join Amazon.com associates program from the UK and promote products/services to those residing in the US.

https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/

This will be the program that most likely drives most of your business online.
Reply
BrianManning Premium
Thanks - you are very clear!

I have been rejected by Amazon. It is clear that they do not feel my website as things stand is suitable for them. But I have since found out that it is better not to have affiliate links until I have built up traffic, so I am working on putting posts with keywords.

Thanks
Reply
Kyle Premium
You are applying far too early. You need a really good base of content on your website before you apply for Amazon and that is why this is covered in LEVEL 3 of the training, not 1.
Reply
BrianManning Premium
Yes, I get it!!! I am looking forward to starting Level 2 tomorrow. My problem is really that I have a good job already it is just that for a variety of circumstances I have to do a tremendous amount of flying for it. I am just really desperate to see if I can actually make money from this and then be able to fly less, and therefore I am jumping ahead of myself!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, but jumping ahead too early won't earn you money quicker...in fact that contrary.

The first month is typically your foundation building stage. In order to build a website that earns you consistent revenue, you need this foundation. After this, you are going to start seeing traffic and as you build this out, there are many different ways in which you can generate revenue.

Personally it took me into my 3rd month of busting my butt to make my first dollar online, by month 6 though I was making consistent income and by the year mark, I was almost full time.

But guess what would have happened if I quit during those first two "trying" months. I would not be where I am at today. Just wanted to put things into perspective for you.

I am in this journey with you, so is the community here at WA. If you want to jump in, work hard, take action, and persist. Amazing things can and will happen!
