Good morning WA folks
I've been here for around a week, and have gained a superb amount of knowledge in that time - I wanted to write this post to share something that I've found, and which might help someone else sometime - I've never liked the term "Niche" - It's a horrible word, however, in the time I've been here, I have changed mine 3 times to one I'm happy with, and can work with. The reason I've done this, is that the first 2 niche topics I had were so broad, it would have taken such a lot of work to get them up and running, never mind monetize them. I will still do these websites I'm talking about, but to get up and running, I am first going to create a couple of much smaller, more targeted Niche sites, work with them, learn to get the SEO done properly, and hopefully earn from them - Later down the line, maybe in a year or 2, I can look at doing the bigger sites, in more congested markets, but for now, the idea is to keep it simple, and not try to run before I can walk - that's something I've always had a problem with, but identifying that is half of the solution.
So, what I'm saying is, if you are struggling to find a topic for your site, or the topics you have chosen aren't working for you, then don't be afraid to change course completely because, if you keep going on a topic that isn't working for you, that you are not entirely comfortable with, and that topic or the depth of it prevents you seeing results in a reasonable time frame, then you will lose interest, and motivation - Yes, the Niche needs to be one that interests you, and that makes the whole process so much more enjoyable, and allows you to sound so much more authoritative when you speak about it. It also has to be sustainable against competitors, and it needs to be reasonably narrow, at least when you are starting out. By ensuring this, you also ensure your own success - don't get stuck on a particular topic just because it was your first choice - If it's not working for you in the early stages, it certainly won't work for you when you go live and try to get visitors.
Good luck to everyone - have a good day!
