Rankings down

Hi good people.

I have noticed quite a few comments from members about their rankings falling. My did as well and went off the radar but I can now find myself climbing back.

For some reason my site was unverified and some of my posts were nonindexed. Especially one post that was climbing the ladder in a cut throat jeweley niche. So I did the following to find out what was going on and you may want to do the same if you have concerns:

  • CHECK YOUR POSTS AND PAGES AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT MARKED AS NONINDEX.
  • CHECK GOOGLE WEBMASTERS AND MAKE SURE YOUR SITE IS STILL VERIFIED.
  • CHECK GOOGLE WEBMASTERS FOR SOFT 404's (Apparently Google does not like these at all and I noticed I have 2 which a couple of months ago I did not have, and I did not change anything in the posts).
  • DON'T PANIC, WE ARE IN GOOD HANDS AND GLITCHES DO OCCUR IN ALL SYSTEMS.
  • MOVE ON, CONQUER ANY PROBLEMS THAT ARISE WITH A CLEAR HEAD.
  • PLAY THE CARDS THAT HAVE BEEN DEALT THE BEST WAY YOU CAN AND YOU MY FRIENDS WILL END UP WITH THAT WINNING HAND!!!

Your Welcome, Mahesh.

Thank you those are great reminders.

Yes, it is all about keeping on the ball. I read an article that suggests that Google can change algorithms 500 - 600 times a year. I am not sure how true that is but it wouldn't surprise me.

That's right. I also saw a drop, but that had a bit to do with a core update at Google.
I also found soft errors, not even 404's but just Mobile bad habit stuff, such as having clickable links too close to each other. For pc it is fine if there is two lines of text and in both lines is a link, but for mobile this is a hazard, as the touch devices have to determine where you are pressing.
So google asked me to change that. As soon as I had done that and re-verified with Google, all sorts of posts started to rank again back up to where they were before or in some cases even better.

Steven

Good point about the mobile I didn't think about links being too close together.
