What the heck is going on with my Search Analytics?
On 5 November of last year, I started utilizing the Google Search Console and began monitoring my Search Analytics to track my status.
My numbers on that first day were acceptable, though not impressive:
Total Clicks: 72
Total Impressions: 1,772
Ave. CTR: 4.06%
Ave. Position: 62.2
Ttl Keywords: 249
A couple of times a week, I recorded the numbers and by Christmas, they improved to:
Total Clicks: 124
Total Impressions: 3,536
Ave. CTR: 3.51%
Ave. Position: 66.9
Ttl Keywords: 654
Total Impressions and Ttl Keywords had more than doubled!
Then, the bottom fell out. Just after Christmas came a downward trend, with the biggest drop happening just after New Year’s Day.
And, today, I see these numbers:
Total Clicks: 40
Total Impressions: 2771
Ave. CTR: 1.44%
Ave. Position: 55.9
Ttl Keywords: 422
The difference from Christmas until now are significant:
Total Clicks are only 1/3 of what they were.
Total Impressions have dropped by over 20%.
Ave. CTR has dropped by more than half.
Ave. Position has actually improved by over 15%. The only positive I see.
Ttl Keywords dropped by 35%+.
I feel like Google is spanking me for something.
I keep my Site Health in the green, mostly at 100%, My Site Trust has been at 100% since early December last year. My Publishing Frequency stays, for the most part at 80% or above.
I try to use “low hanging fruit” keywords as much as possible but, I don’t let it completely take over and endanger my content – because, I feel “content” is “king.”
Am I reading too much into these numbers? How important are they?
Any thoughts out there in WA land? Any and all input is appreciated!

I think it's important not to get too hung up on numbers at this stage and just keep going. I tend to get a little obsessed with that, too. I've been working in retail and sales for the past several years, so I've become familiar with the seasonal patterns of spending money. January and February always have the lowest numbers in retail, and things pick up again in March. I tend to think it would reflect similarly with affiliate marketing, although it's also the time of year people are looking for money-making opportunities online - food for thought. I personally love your numbers....looks like you're doing great to me. :)
Thanks, for the input, Jaime!
The interesting thing is my Google Analytics has shown a steady rise in website visitors without taking a serious nosedive.
I'm beginning to think that the Google Search Console is a bit on the wacky side. :-)
