The Fear Of Not Taking Action

Starting with my own personal experience, I found myself unwilling to take that first step. Either because, it may have been something someone had said or did that took me right out of focus. It could also be miseducation. By taking in some quiet time and meditation, the root to my problem was fear. What was it that had me so fearful? Was it the fear of not having the money to pay my bills, having more debt or living homeless at a shelter?

Well, to my surprise it was not any of those things. My biggest fear caught me by surprise and not once have I ever given it any thought. Yes, this fear kept me from moving forward and taking action to do numerous things. It is the root to why family and peers aren’t there to give us the support we want. Especially when venturing in to new challenges. That fear is called “abandonment”. This fear go’s way back to those early child hood days. You remember, those days when you wanted to be accepted by your peers. But, something was always holding you back. Yes, sometimes our parents and school professors are guilty of this act too.

You see, people sometimes would put distance between you and them. The reasoning for this is because; they don’t want you to know how wrong or unfamiliar they are. Especially, about what is being said or told by them. They have that same fear too. The fear of showing incompetents to peers. We had those times when someone would challenge us to do things we may not want to do. But, we end up doing them anyway because we don’t want to feel cowardly or show that look of fear. The con here for those “do or dare” challenges is that they are usually fixed. They also tell you that you must get it right the first time. There lies the problem for most of us who really wanted to learn and master certain skills.

I failed many times trying to learn various academic skills (business) in school and employment. I was made to believe that if I could not get something right the first time, I would be denied working privileges. We all don’t have the same learning curves for mastering various skills. When put under this kind of pressure by uncaring peers, family members and school professors. Some of us would back away and not face the challenge. Again, no one needs to take on fixed or foolish challenges that could damage ones reputation. One must take a challenge that is chosen by them which would allow growth and development based on one’s learning curve.

You are starting fresh and new. Your learning curve plays a big part in mastering what you are learning to do. Don’t allow yourself to be con by an “Opportunistic trickster” seeking to take advantage of your lack of skill and Knowledge to a challenging task. Just let your learning do the rest and feel the flow. Let nothing keep you in confusion. Become your own personal developer.

Tony, thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience
I applaud you for being transparent

We all have our reasons for being fearful
Most I know from our childhood

The important thing is that we have now taken a positive step to stop this cycle and try to repair the past
.
I do understand as well that the uncertainty of the fear of the unknown will bring
Well done, and congrats on your excellent upgrade
You have said it by your positive action taking

Never hesitate to ask questions if unsure or you need clarification
I wish you continued success in all your endeavours

Way to keep persevering, Tony!

Jeff

I can so relate to this post, I'm still trying to find the root of my fear. You may be on to something, I never considered abandonment.

Thanks for sharing and shedding some light on my own issues.

Blessings.

The FEAR of NOT taking action. Yes I believe that abandonment is the fear of not succeeding when you are a kid you go through so many changes just to fit in, I agree one needs to take a challenge that is chosen by them and it would allow growth and development based on there learning curve, very true we don't always get it right the
the first time, sometimes we have to go over and over a few times to get it right.
Thank you, for sharing

Thank you for sharing this Tony. Yes, fear of failure is very common and can hold you back if you let it. I remember as a child being told maths was not my strong point! I then developed a fear of failing any maths test! The good thing about WA is there's always support and encouragement

Kathy you are not alone there because as a kid I hated math and I was not any good at it. Did not understand it at that time, but my mother made me study very hard and would always drill me. I would sometimes hide from her just so that I would not feel bad because I would get teased by the math wiz kids in class. She knew nothing until the fighting in class started and the teacher would called. Then the special classes would start. OMG ! I felt like I was grounded for life. Long story short my math skills got better although I still have those crazy nightmares about numbers around Tax Season. LOL !!! Anyway Best Wishes And Success !
