Before you begin to worry about my title, The Reign of Google Has Ended, let me explain.

Google announced yesterday, Monday August 10, 2015, that Google will no longer be the parent company of the many different companies it now owns. Google Co-Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have announced a new restructuring of the tech giant and the formation of a new company called Alphabet that will be the parent holding company with Google being its largest wholly owned subsidiary.

Both Larry Page and Sergey Brin will run Alphabet as CEO and President respectively. They have handed the CEO role of Google over to Sundar Pichai, who was previously Senior Vice President of Products such as Android, Chrome and Apps at Google.

This restructuring of Google will help it to improve performance and better manage many of the other companies that it owns. In essence this has significantly slimmed down Google and has made many of the companies it once owned now owned by Alphabet.

TO EASE THE INVESTOR WORRIES

Over the past decade both Page and Brin have come under pressure from investors about the risks they have taken with the financial success of Google by spending it on riskier projects. These projects were endeavors such as the autonomous cars, massive internet-delivering balloons for countries with poor internet access, smart household devices, and cutting edge medical research, just to name a few.

By restructuring the company and making Alphabet to be the parent holding company of Google and all of the other subsidiaries, this will basically give investors a better insight into how the money is being spent.

Colin Gillis, a technology analyst at BGC Partners said of the restructuring, "It will give people a truer picture of the nature and specifics of Google's core operation."

For a more in depth explanation of which companies Google will keep, which ones will become separately owned subsidiaries of Alphabet, how this will effect Google stocks, and the entire news story, read more at the link below.
