A Simple Thing That Helps You To Be Creative

Every once in a while when creating your website content, like all writers, you will have writers block. You hit a roadblock in the creative process. What should you do?

Many of us will struggle to force an idea to come to us. This is normal and sometimes it works, but most times it doesn't or it only helps a little bit. What should you do?

Why is your mind stuck in neutral? It is worse than being in your car in heavy traffic. At least in traffic you do move forward a bit, albeit slow. So again, what should you do?

A SIMPLE THING

When I get any kind of blockage of creativity I do one of two things. If it is not pouring rain or in the middle of a snowstorm, I go outside day or night and lean up or sit down against a tree.

Yes I know that a tree may not feel soft and comfortable but it is alive. You are making a physical connection to another living thing that is bigger than you, maybe even older.

When you think of that tree as a life force that has experienced time and the energy of the environment more than you ever could, it makes me amazed at how that must be like.

I start thinking what it would be like if I could stay in one place all of my life, giving shade to humans and a resting and playful place for birds, squirrels and other animals.

When you think of yourself as a tree and let your imagination run wild, it frees up your creativity blockage. NOTE: Always wear a hat, unless you don't mind a bird using you for target practice.

If the weather or timing doesn't allow me to go outside, I go up on YouTube and find videos of Virtual Hiking Mountain Forest Scenery. No words spoken, only the sounds of nature.

The feeling, smell, sight and sounds of nature will always help me to clear that blockage of creativity. What about you? What do you do to get those creative juices flowing? Comment below.

Well I do love the thought of hiking 🥾🥾 in actual forest, woods, & the park. I mean that really is one of the best ways to get those creative juices flowing and some ideas across.

Great share on this, Robert!

Myra ♥️

Thank you Myra. Hiking is something I have always enjoyed doing for not just resetting the mind, but also a fun form of exercise, which also stimulates the mind.

Sitting against a tree is a great peaceful way to reset the mind while being close to nature. However, hiking is the best way to immerse yourself into nature, getting all of the sounds, smells and sights of mother nature.

2

This is such a refreshing approach. 🌿
Stepping outside of the noise and reconnecting with nature makes so much sense—creativity often returns when we stop forcing it. I love the tree perspective (and the hat advice 😄). Thanks for sharing something so grounding and practical.

You are most welcome Monica. It amazes me how people take trees for granted when they do so much for us and our planet. They breathe in CO2 and exhale O2, which is the reverse of what we humans do.

As I have said below in the comments, if I can find a tree next to running water, that makes it even better. The sound of the water and the amazing sense of the tree, is a very relaxing reset for my mind.

“You’re welcome! I totally agree — trees are so powerful and underrated. And yes, a tree near running water is the ultimate reset for the mind. Nature is truly calming.”

1

Love this. Nature is one of the fastest resets for me too. Stepping outside for even 10 minutes clears my head and I come back with better ideas. Also, when I step out, it is usually with rod and reel in hand.

1

Thanks Michael. Fishing is another great outdoor "reset" I used to enjoy. Not that I don't anymore, I just enjoy having no other distractions, unless it is the sound of running water, which is why I like hiking near mountain streams.

1

That is good one too.

1

Nature resets!

1

It most certainly does! When at all possible, I find a tree near running water. The sound of the water is very relaxing.

1

This made me smile and rethink my next creative block solution!
Leaning against a tree sounds way more peaceful than staring at a blinking cursor.
Nature really does have a way of rebooting the imagination.

3

Yes, nature really has that kind of magic. I think it is because there are so many different species of plants all around us that we often take for granted.

Trees are amazing because many people don't see them as living and breathing life forms. They actually breathe in Carbon Dioxide and exhale Oxygen.

The best tree I have ever experienced is an Old-Growth Redwood that is 1,800+ years old called Methuselah Tree, in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Woodside CA.

Every time I go to San Francisco, I try to visit it. When you stand next to it you feel so tiny. The stories that tree could tell would be fascinating. See attached picture.

1

Nature really does show off sometimes.
That redwood sounds incredible. Standing next to a tree that old must feel like meeting a wise elder who’s seen everything.
No wonder you keep going back!”

2

I am in such an immense sense of amazement when I stand next to and lean against that massive old redwood tree. The tree is located only about 100 yards from the western facing mountain cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It has seen and experienced every single storm and daily impact of the environment.

On some days when there is a low cloud cover moving on shore, the road up to the tree will have you driving up through and then above the clouds. Being only about 10 miles from the San Andreas fault line, it has experienced every earthquake California has ever had. The stories that tree could tell must be amazing!

1

Sounds like that redwood is California’s original influencer. Storms, earthquakes, ocean views, and still standing tall.
What a privilege to lean against so much history and quiet strength

2

"Quiet Strength" I liked the way you put that!

Another amazing thing about the tree, you see no evidence of its roots. Most trees show at least the tops of some of their roots. With this tree, you see no evidence of roots. That tells me they go really deep and wrap around the rocks of the mountain itself.

1

Exactly! No visible roots because they’re clearly overachievers.
Deep, wrapped around the mountain, quietly getting the job done.
