Hi everybody. I am just now trying to put together my first site here. Since it will be language related and since my first language isn't english I was thinking about starting it

Thanks Alan.

Those are some good arguments. I was thinking kind of along the same lines here. But it's always good to hear other people on something like that.

I think for now I'll stick with english versions because the market is just bigger.

Und nächstes mal können wir uns dann ja auch einfach auf deutsch unterhalten. O quizas en español. ;)

Thanks again!

Peter

Peter, were you ever able to discover the answer to your question? Because I'm trying to figure out the same thing -- I'd like to edit the content myself and write in both English and Italian from the very beginning... I'm also looking for a hand on this same subject

Hi Alan.

Thanks for your reply. However, I might not have made myself clear enough: The plan was to build the site in two predefined languages from the beginning, e.g. english and german.

That would mean that I would have to write every text element on the site (including for example the labels on buttons etc.) in two languages myself and "store" these texts in different locations.

The user would then be able to switch between those two languages (and those two only).

I know that there are frameworks for Joomla for example that let you do this but you would have to choose the right framework from the beginning. That's why I was wondering if there might be anything comparable to this in WordPress.

I am not at all a friend of automatic translations so that google translator is not really an option for me.

The fact that no one else commented on this, however, somehow shows me that this is apparently not a really popular topic.

But of course I would still be interested in any kind of tips!

Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter, I see that you wrote this months ago so you probably already found a solution but since I just found a solution for this same problem myself, I decided to do a video tutorial and post it in my blog for the benefit of the community.
Sharing it with you also, just in case it's still useful to you: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/animachiara/blog/how-to-build-a-bilingual-or-multilingual-website/a_aid/b20f5da5
