Who Are You?
Try asking anyone this question:
"Who are you?"
Nine times out of ten, folks will answer by giving their name.
"I'm Mary, or Bob, or Jane, or Joe or whoever."
But you are not your name.
They may say, "I'm a student, or a teacher, or builder, or nurse, or any one of many, many professions"
But you are not your job.
They may say, " I'm a mother, or a father, or son, or daughter, or sister, or brother."
But that's not you, that's a role, that's a relationship, that's not you.
So "Who are you?"
The ancient Greeks had a phrase, "Know Thyself" which was written on the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi.
So the idea of self knowledge is not new.
Asking the question, "Who are you?", is undoubtedly easier than knowing the answer!
