Comments made on Posts - Stupid Daylight Robbery
Ok I don't know if the title of my blog is appropriate but the "Pay it Froward" scenario seems to be one sided from a return a favor attitude. The other problem is that the engagement is either wrong and not self sustaining.
One Sided
Fellow Waffle (sorry to be Poignant) posts his blog on the comment section and says,
" Howdy just wrote a beautiful post about how to make a fortune in 3 hours, please be so kind to leave a comment - and I thank-you, kindest regards @CowboyBoots2sizes2big"
I being the Waffle that I am, arrive on his/her page make an appropriate remark, get the thumbs up and then the Dear John Good bye.
Where did I go wrong ?- was the font type I used degrading? Was my wordpress profile pic deplorable?, was my website address that I entered Blocked as Spam?
I even was proactive and asked - please return the favor? - No too busy moved on to section 5.3 what happens in the past stays there until I need you again.
My Point - I don't need to ask - when you see the comment in your wordpress dashboard and you click on it to approve, all my details are there including my website.
Have a look at this link example http://take.ms/hE2Pv
Credit to Michelle of http://treasuredcanine.com - this was her response to my website - http://take.ms/csGsC
All I'm asking is to return the favor - If people take the time and effort to comment, reciprocate.
Wrong Engagement
Example - Someone has a post about Solar Powered Quad Copters -
Wrong
" Wow your website is so groovy how long did it take for you to make money - hope you don't mind but I will be promoting and copying your niche - been here on WA for 7 days and I'm so excited"
The answer has no bearing to the item or topic being discussed and can actually destroy a thread if approved - common sense - be neutral and act like a customer interested.
If you receive such comments from fellow member just trash them!
Correct - and Self sustaining engagement!
" Hi Bob - I really think that these Solar Powered Quad Copters are the best way forward as I can relate to the cost of spending a fortune on Batteries -What would be best the MK1 or MK2 model?"
You see - more reason for engagement!

Definitely agree. New members in particular seem to have.....issues with leaving comments on sites.
Agree, wholeheartedly, BlueDot! I always read comments before approving and if I think it's not related to the site and more of a self serving type post, I'll dump it. Alanna
Very good points, I wrote a blog yesterday with a similar context about people leaving crappy comments on sites and going carelesly through questions here at WA, 2 things that drive me nuts.
here is a link Don't be half arsed when commenting on sites, you are missing out on opportunities.
I'd just like to point out a few little points here though. I hope they may help.
1. This is in relation to the one sided aspect. Some people may not return the favour for a few days due to their hectic lifestyle. I can admit to this one but I always deliver. I have seen people taking over a week and in 1 case 2 but its all cool. Most people at WA are helpful but then again like anything else, theres always a few.
2. You do realize you can edit comments? I have to do this a lot due to grammar and spelling issues. These 2 factors if not corrected can have affects on your post ranking. I would not reccommend adding a tonne of extra content to the comment but a sentence or 2 never does any harm especially if the comment is rubbish and generic.
3. The website link on the comment provides a mutual bonus. The comment helps your site and the link creates a backlink for them. If their comment is crap its no good to anyone. But on this point people would rather get the link from the WA thread, this way they do not have to go searching for the post you just written (no matter how easy it is). Also many people have not really thought about clicking the backlink.
4. A lot of people are getting overly hyped about the bounce rate. It is actually doing you no damage it is just an analytic stat. I think it was Jay who mentioned this. If a person comes to one of your web posts or pages and sees all the info they want, why in Gods green earth would they want to look at more? especially if they dont have the time on their hands. After this case you get a bounce, which again is just a stat that google does not penalize on. If you are getting a bounce of 80 - 100% you seriously need to take a look at your site, you are doing something wrong.
Anyway great post
Thanks
Jason
Sorry it wasn't Jay, it was DomW and I have heard some other pretty successful guys quoting it also. Any way here is Dom's blog, I would reccommend giving it a read Bounce Rate - Do You Need To Care?

I have left a few thanks etc to new members and older members alike, I think after nearly 3 weeks your head is filled with a lot of information and lots of follows I return comments to as many as I can but I also have a day job that takes a lot of my time and I have also learnt to be a bit more patient since joining WA.
