i have the top 3 for my search keywords. two other keyword posts were ranked right with them as the the first three as the top in the organic searches . i do believe ill be able to get some targeted traffic from this content

That's great! top 3 should get you some traffic!
Don't get hung up on the 1,800,000 though.... if you skip to page 10, or maybe 20 you will probably see that in reality there are about 250 pages competing on your keyword. The other 1,799,750 pages probably contain one or more of your search words, but are deemed unfit to be shown as a result to you.
What counts though is that you're in the top 3, and that will give you traffic, regardless of how much competition there is, so
