My background is psychiatric social work in child welfare. I believe in the intrinsic goodness of people. All children are inherently good. At times, it is the behavioral choice, NOT the child, that is bad (ie, aggressive, self-injurious). With copious patience, sincere care, authentic rapport and concerned guidance, children can be taught to choose more positive, productive behaviors. In the 12 year course of my career, it has been my experience that this is best accomplished through the liberal addition of humor and creativity in practice. In short, if they know you care, and they're having fun...they learn.
I am also a writer. I have one piece of poetry published and approximately 40 other original works that are in final edits. I've written extensively in every employment setting I've occupied. I have contributed for years to local Open Mic Poetry events and hosted one such outing for a time at a prominent Writers Center. It is extremely second-nature for me to write. I begin each day with lengthy journal entries and am enamored of the crafted word on the page. I find, I work out my issues on paper. Things have a way of coming to resolution through a cathartic, written release.
I have been writing for many decades and began as a child, when I would sleep with a pad and pencil under my pillow, lest I miss a good idea that raced through my mind before sleep. I am currently exploring ways to generate a successful stream of income as a content writer. I love the flexible and portable lifestyle such an enterprise would permit.
I am an avid, amateur photographer. I shot 30,000 stills in two years, mainly nature photographs. I'm fond of my images, many of which capture the resplendent beauty of the Hudson Valley region, wherein I reside. I'm not well-versed in technology and the ways of the internet, but I'm learning. I would like to discover a profitable way to offer some of my images for sale, online.
Music is a passion of mine. I've been playing African hand drums for nearly a decade, and belong to a few groups that gather periodically at various settings. Percussion excites me! All types: tribal music, native american drums, latin jazz, hardcore classic rock. It's a thing that gets in your blood, and moves you.
And then, there's motorcycles! That's a conversation of it's own.
I have been a mother, a daughter, a sibling, a friend...a colleague and a hippie, a confidante and a poet--a biker and an artist...and I remain, a dreamer. I read much about the spiritual realm, as we truly are spirits here, having a human experience. Eager to see what the next phase of life brings...
