Finding My Way Through Information- With WA's Help

After exactly one month, my knowledge of blogging has come a long way! I had read and accessed information from bloggers, but knew nothing about how to create a blog myself. Blog posts about travel, sewing, DIY and crafting, food, and lifestyles caught my eye and helped me see what others were doing.

But then one day I thought, my head is full of information too. I have a passion for crafting, sewing, and DIY projects. With 50+ years experience, why shouldn't I share what I know?

Learning Curve

So an idea was born.... I was going to write a blog. But how? Information is everywhere, but what was best for me? I followed the advice of some successful bloggers. I signed up for blogging bootcamps. So confused.

Researching is a strength for me, so I began to read and search. I tested the waters with several different blog "training" options. I was still confused. Too much information and not enough step-by-step learning and doing.

Then I stumbled upon Wealthy Affiliates. I checked them out and liked what I read. This training was beginner friendly and supportive, with gradual intervals for learning. I also appreciated the free trial period.

Some trainings wanted $1500 paid upfront with no clue of what the program would look like.
I don't like mysterious or gray. I like things to be black and white. In order for me to learn, it needs to be specific, easy to follow, and supportive. So I tried the WA free trial. I liked it. I heard from Kyle right away. I began training, step by step, and began to understand. I set goals for myself, picked a name, and got a page up and running in a matter of days.

Niche

Originally I had a niche in mind, but the idea was broad. Working through the WA training segments my idea became more real and made more sense. My passion and strengths lie within the crafting/DIY world, but I needed to find a focus.

I enjoy working with my hands and creating things. There is not much I haven't tried. I make things for the sheer pleasure of making. It is my therapy. But I know this isn't the case for everyone.

So there it was. I could write a blog that would support an audience who wants to craft, but maybe finds it frustrating or confusing (kind of like me starting to blog). My audience would be looking for reasons to craft, what to craft, and how to craft. So ComfortinCrafts.com was born.

Success

I am far from feeling successful, but I am proud of myself for getting started and actually seeing my site take shape. I officially joined WA and am a premium member. I continue to move through the training, learning new things every day. I am writing posts about the benefits of crafting and being creative, and also giving advice on how to get started. I have also published 3 how-to pages so far, but not sure I am getting any visitors yet.

I need to work on "Writing Awesome Content That Ranks." Learning to effectively find and use keywords that will get my site ranked high on Google is goal number one. If I can gain an audience, provide them with interesting topics, and help them improve their skills and confidence I can continue to grow my website into a profitable venture.

Feedback Time

Getting through the technical aspects of building a website have been tough. I am a retired teacher/administrator, so I am somewhat "techy" but far from the guru I need to become. I appreciate all the help WA provides me. The support team has stuck with me when I ask questions and try to clarify my needs.

And I appreciate any and all feedback you smart folks want to send my way.
