3 Months In
OK, I have been on WA for 3.5 months now, and I would like to take this opportunity to share my experiences.
I have learned a great deal in the online training, both free training and the subsequent 3 months of Premium membership, including:
- Kyle's very informative videos and blogs, which got me started with many things, including: building a SiteRubix website using WordPress; adding quality content, including those all-important images; researching keywords using Jaaxy and the WA Keyword; using the All in One SEO tool to start getting indexed by Google; transferring the SiteRubix website to my own domain, www.whichlaptopforme.com .
- Accessing other training by Jay, AKA magistudios, "Building Websites for Clients" and "10 Steps Required for Top Google Rankings". More really informative training to move me in the right direction.
I have built out a pretty big section of my website and learned how to do many things through researching on Google, including:
- Customising my theme to include a left sidebar with widgets for search, back and forward buttons, up/down buttons and advertising.
- Adding widgets to achieve the following: user-defined menus to assist with navigating my many pages; social media icons; navigation buttons.
- Adding plugins to achieve the following: shortcodes to differentiate the user's geographical location for targeting advertising and Amazon associate links; shortcodes to identify mobile and non-mobile devices; adding tables (TablePress is a fantastic plugin!) to display Amazon associate product links and my own product comparisons; adding tables to contain Amazon advertising links (so I can continue editing pages with WordPress Visual mode without it messing with the links).
- Adding user comments, including Google Capcha to deter robots.
I am now waiting to see if I can get ranked by Google, attract some traffic and make my first sale. Only then will I feel the desire to invest time in the potential social media opportunities for attracting more traffic. I'm not a social media natural and agree with Kyle that unless careful, it is a great way to waste a lot of time. So I will embrace that when I am convinced this thing is going to earn me a living.
As you can see I have worked hard and learned loads. There is still plenty of WA training to get through, and if I can get ranked high in Google and Bing, I aim to get through it all and do my best to build my business.
Thanks for listening - if you got this far! Good luck with your training - it is really educational and rewarding.
