Music to my ears!

Nat "King" Cole was the supreme crooner and my Uncle Fred loved him. That is probably why I learned to love his voice also because of hearing him sing with Uncle Fred so often probably everyday for a time when I was growing up in my grandmother's apartment while Uncle Fred got dressed or whatever he was doing. I remember hearing about everyone of Nat's songs during the time of my youth. I especially remember "Nature Boy" a very difficult song to sing but I only learned that after I got older and heard others try to make it sound as easy (with less success) than Nat did. Nat's easy way with music fooled most of his listeners into believing they could do what they heard. I ofter wondered what was going on for Mr Cole while I listened to his smooth voice with it's mellow sound. He was my ideal of the consumate crooner. He mezmerized his listeners with his smooth voice and mellow tones.

He was the fist black to be on television with out a sponsor for a year until the network NBC would not continue paying for this show. Nobody has gotten that contract since. We have not heard a voice like his since he died of lung cancer due to smoking all his life. Now we can listen to his music because it was recorded by Capitol Records and some of it is still in the files as tapes able to be re-mastered as the studio wishes to make some money for his family (estate). Many of his contemporaries came to his funeral when he died making it a current who is who of the day. Those of us who heard him will always remember his voice. Most of us miss him today.
