Coaching youth sports
Many parents watch their kids from the stands and never get involved. They would prefer to complain and sit back and just be frustrated by the coaching decisions and frustrated with the way the particular coach in charge is handling some situation. Well, my suggestion is to get involved! It is easier than you think, you don't need to be the head coach you can start out being an assistant, a bench coach, a team mom or dad. Later you can volunteer to be a head coach or you can stay where you are at. Either way your frustration level will drop as you become a part of the team making decision process. It is a great amount of fun and satisfaction. You don't need to be an expert - no one is when they start and I have yet to see a coach, even a seasoned one that knows everything. I loved coaching and now that my kids are no longer playing youth sports I miss it dearly. I have been out of coaching for a couple of years now but I am seriously thinking about coaching again, it would be a different experience coaching kids that I don't yet know but I am sure that I would soon learn their names and personalities. Again, try it. You will regret it if you don't take that first step. Good luck.

I umpired little league when I was 14 so i know full well about the yelling. Most parent didnt realize we had a strike zone for the youngest kids at knees to shoulders.

Wow - umpiring is a big responsibility for a 14 year old! Good job, but I am sure you had some parents that did not act like adults and that is too bad. I agree a small strike zone is no good and just drags the game along. Having a big strike zone and telling the kids to swing the bat, makes the game go faster and makes it more fun.
