I feel over the past year or so, almost everyone online looking for an opportunity to make extra money has heard the two words affiliate marketing. You may have heard them sparingly or, if you are on the TikTok app, it seems that is all that is being talked about.

Affiliate marketing is a great beginner business model with the chance to really help someone change their lives financially and with gaining time freedom. I am a firm believer in that statement. However, I am also a believer in hard word and consistency.

So, basically the terms affiliate marketing can seem intimidating. When you break it down into regular terms, these two words simply mean you are recommending products from already established companies and you gain a commission when someone makes a purchase through your unique link and recommendation.

Once you have a website set up around a certain topic you are interested in or already have vast knowledge of, you then create content in the forms of articles. Once you have some content, then you will begin to get indexed through Google and other search engines. This will result in traffic or in other words people visiting your website for information about what you are writing and talking about.

Traffic starts coming more regularly to your website and you now become an affiliate for companies who have products related to your niche (topic of discussion) For example, I love the sport of golf and have a website revolving around the topic of helping weekender players and amateurs. There are many companies in the golf niche such as equipment companies Taylor Made, Callaway and more. There are training aids within the industry that I can sign up and become an affiliate for. Once a website visitor clicks through my unique link when recommending a product and they purchase, I (you) get a commission.

What Affiliate Marketing is Not

As mentioned in the introduction to this post, the past year or so this type of business has been glorified and almost made to sound too good to be true. Some marketing tactics and ways this business model is projected may even seem scammy. The bottom line is that affiliate marketing is not a scam and is a great way for beginners to embark on their online journey.

Affiliate marketing is not a get-rich-quick deal. Affiliate marketing is not an MLM deal where you need to build teams and those people recruit and you chase your friends and family. Affiliate marketing is not going to see you quitting your job in the next 30 days and traveling the world on yachts.

I think the quicker you set yourself up to realize this is a full time business the more positive of an experience you are going to have while building it. So, please, I'm asking if you can put the shiny object notions aside because there are lots of shiny objects revolving the online industry being showcased via social media posts. You will be less disappointed if you know that being in the trenches and building an asset is where long term success lies.

What Affiliate Marketing Can Be

Many marketing avenues that push affiliate marketing usually cater to people who are sick and tired of their regular nine to five grinds. The marketing seeks out people who are tired and want extra cash. Affiliate marketing does not need to be an avenue for people who just wish to quit and become internet entrepreneurs. You don't have to have a story that has you being dead broke at a dead end job living out of your car. Affiliate marketing can help someone who is happy and content at their full time job supplement their income.

This business model can help those who wish to really make a push to work for themselves one day and gain time freedom back, do that. My notion here is if you are willing to put in the work, good things will come. Consistency is key in this business. You must commit to creating content and becoming a content creator. You must have a group of like-minded people to answer questions you have during your journey. You must commit to being a business owner or entrepreneur, even if this is just your side gig. If you embrace those characteristics you are already on your way to seeing success in the coming weeks, months and years.
