Follow your passion.
When I first sat down to think about a niche I kept thinking of things that I could turn a profit with. I even started a site that was intended to eventually turn a profit. Luckily I didn't get past the about me page, because I was doing it for all the wrong reasons. I had an idea for something else, but it just seemed like it would be more difficult to find items that I could recommend or affiliate with.
I decided to start a different site, something that I am passionate about. Its not very far along, but a piece here and piece there and it will continue to grow with time. The great thing though is that writing pages or posts for my site doesn't feel like work at all. I look forward to getting to write for my site and have ideas just pouring out right now.
I guess what I am trying to say is simply do something you are passionate about and worry about the rest later.
