How Gardening is Like Building A Website

I have always been a gardener. However, I have always grown flowers. Our neighbor planted a food garden a couple of years ago. This year, I decided to try it. We had re-landscaped our front yard and put in 10 huge hand built planter boxes. Again, most are full of flowers. But this year, I turned 2 into food plantings. We just got the first 5 crook neck squash! And they are delicious!! We also had our first harvest of 40 green beans. And we get cherry tomatoes everyday. Oh, I got off track! Back to how the 2 are alike. Gardening takes a lot of patience waiting for seeds to take and then growing to the point of producing fruit. It is also tempting to pick things too early. Our websites are similar. It takes a lot of patience to sit down and write, and then wait! And wait-- and wait! But when something goes right, it really pumps the adrenaline. Each success pushes us to want more and do more. As with gardening, you don't want to quit too early before you see the fruits of your labor. Just let things marinate and you will see growth. As with the garden, let your website grow. Tend to it when needed. Both are a waiting game. In this day and age, everyone wants instant gratification. But there is pride in waiting. Waiting builds character. It also builds patience. Who has heard "patience is a virtue"? That too. So next time you get frustrated or feel like quitting, remember to just be patient!! Patience does pay off in both our personal and business lives.
