A Little About Me. My First Real Blog Post Here at Wealthy Affiliate

So I wanted to kinda give an update to my progress and tell you a little about myself while knocking out my first blog post here on Wealthy Affiliate! I am happy to be here!

I joined about a week ago as a free member and immediately saw the value in what Kyle and Carson had going on here so within four days I upgraded to monthly. Probably the best investment I have made on myself in years! Bar none!

Week 1

I have made good progress I think considering I have a full time job and a family. I am 53% through Phase 2 of Affiliate Boot-camp and I am 73% through Level 1 of Getting Started. I have a new domain and have brought it to SiteRubix which I love! I never dreamed I would like managed Wordpress hosting but I am sold! Hook, line and sinker! I'm a fan! I have created my Privacy & Affiliate disclosure page as well as a lengthy About Me page. Installed a number of plugins and I am working on content creation which has always been the bane of my existence! LOL! I I have to literally force myself to FOCUS!

About Me

Where do I start? I am 51 years young happily married with an awesome 17 son who is a Senior in high school. We have a great life living at the beach in Virginia Beach USA. I enjoy traveling, surfing, golfing and woodworking and I also build custom furniture in a small shop behind our home. I have been in the woodworking industry my whole life.

A Turning Point

On the morning of August 2nd of 2011 I woke up that morning and could not stand the man I had become! I could not look in the mirror and I hated myself. I could not imagine my life with drugs and alcohol and I could not imagine it without! I was at a turning point in my life and for whatever reason I got help and I have been clean and sober since that day! I don't say this to brag and this is the last time I will talk about this but I just thought it important to share with anyone that if I can get clean & sober ANYONE can!

Gonna Be RICH!

So with sobriety I had a lot more free time & money on my hands. Not out there ripping and roaring will do that! HaHa! I was surfing the internet and one thing led to another and I saw an ad that went something like this "Homeless Bum is Given Secret Traffic Getting Software and Makes $10,997.39 in 3 days working 20 minutes a day for only $37.97! If you have a computer, an internet connection, 20 minutes a day and can copy and paste then YOU CAN DO THIS!" We've all seen them right? Well I was like DAMN! I have way more than 20 minutes a day, I have a computer, an internet connection and I can copy & paste! I'm gonna be RICH! Well we all know how that story ended don't we? Exactly!

Shiny Object Syndrome

So the next 6 years were a blur with all the software's, black-hat forums, back-link spamming software, spam bots, content spinners, automated content creators etc...you name it I bought. I call these years my "shiny object syndrome years". I made some money don't get me wrong but I woke up one morning and again I could not stand who I had become and I could not look at myself in the mirror. Again! I was at yet another turning point in my life. You see I knew that the people making honest and legitimate livings online were building relationships, they were building a proper email list and they were creating original compelling content that engages with people, yet I always went for the easier softer way!

Onward & Upward!

The good news is that those years weren't a total waste. I know my way around a Wordpress website. I have some niche sites that make some Amazon commissions and I hope to tweak them and build some proper sites using what I learn here at WA. I am looking forward to working through the training and getting out of the dark and into the light! My goal is to build relationships with people, create engaging and thought provoking content, build a proper email list and to hopefully help others do the same. I have a lot to learn but I feel like I have half a chance now that I found Wealthy Affiliate and this awesome community!
