With your question and the blog you linked in mind, I remembered a letter J.W. Goethe wrote once, where he finished by following phrase:
"Sorry for this long letter but I didn't have the time to make it shorter."
Even today, no surely today where we get thousands of useful and unuseful information inputs this is still right, keep short instead of long and mostly annoing story telling.

Very interesting article,thanks for sharing Astrid! timing probably is important as well andy:) but I think every single moment can be the perfect timing for somebody somewhere in the world, who is just needing that information..

I feel like there is no where to go other than to talk about the linked article..and then having read it (seen before but V useful thanks Be) I thought I have to rush in and point out that another important consideration as well as length is tttttttt...ttttt.....tttt timing. and there is another post about that somewhere for sure.
