Wordpress tip of the day - Problem with new user registration

Hello all, I thought I would publish this WordPress tip to help new people here, as this problem seems to be a very common one, so here it is and I have answered this question about 12 times in the last few weeks ,so I am going to publish the solution for all to see.

If you see anybody else with this problem then you can also point them to this blog for the solution

The problem is new user registration - People often create blog questions and say I have my site broken into or hacked, I revived and e mail saying there are new users on my blog or why is there content on my blog I did not create

So here is the reason it happens and the solution

What you are seeing is the general settings, to get here go to settings<< general

Make sure the membership box is unchecked and this will solve your problem, when you set up a new site this comes checked by default so if your experiencing problems then go here and make sure it looks like the one above

The purpose of this setting is to allow other users to access the site, like a website designer or someone you have given permission to access the site to fix any problems

We do not ever really need to use this unless you want someone to access your site to fix any problems, some members have allowed me access to their site to fix things and they use this function to allow me to do so, however you need to un-check this box otherwise spam robots will be able to post content on your site

So now you know how to solve this problem, remember this has nothing to do with comments, they are in a different section of your site and are completely separate so don't get this mixed up
