New Kind of Comment Out There

Hello everybody in WAland.

I have noticed a few new wrinkles in Site Comments and wondered if any body else had bumped into them.

The last two times I have asked for comments on Site Comments I have received a comment through WordPress. The comment has been attached to an older post, not the current one up.

When I open it , it is a looooong, involved dissertation on the end of the world, the meaning of 666, the anti- christ, well illustrated with bible verses, and U-tube images.

I was a little puzzled as to how I was to answer. On the first one I replied telling her it was Off limits in WA, not in the right place-- She attached it to how to keep cats safe at Christmas--, I had heard it all in Sunday School, and to not use Site comments except for its intended use.

About a week later, I got another message from WordPress that I had a comment and to please answer it. My first thought was , not again!

When I opened the comment- it was a full blown Utube video dissertation, again on the end of the world theme. This time I decided not to be nice. I hit the spammed tab. Unfortunately in WordPress, there is no way to answer except in approve and reply.

I'm wondering if anyone else in WA has received something like this? I wanted to check on a profile, but neither one had a pic up, and I couldn't figure out any other way to check out who they were.

I just wish people would follow the rules and let the rest of us take care of our business. Have a good day and a wonderful week, everybody.

It sounds like you clicked on some spam button, and WP picked up on it.
Was this a Site Comment from the WA community, or an outside source?
We should know better than to spam this community for their own purposes, but outsiders? ...Sadly, anything goes, so long as it suits their purposes.
Hope you solve this mystery, Barbara.

It came from outside, it wasn't a WA member. I gave it to site support. If anyone wants to go further, that's fine.I just deleted it off my website.

Notify site support and Kyle. I hope you kept the URL that the individual used so it can be traced back to the person. If you did then they can be banned, possibly from Google and YouTube as well.

ps make sure that when you are in the back office of you site that you log out. Click on your icon in the upper right hand corner and it will ask if you want to log out.

Thanks Jerry, They were so kind to leave their name and URL.

Hi Barbara
This kind of spam is almost certainly delivered by a spambot. The poster creates it once and the bot delivers to many. Yesterday I published a post on a solution for stopping spambots that works with various contact forms, and WP comments: I hope it works for you.

Hi - I have received loads of these recently, they are not coming through Site Comments, they are not WA members. Just delete them.

That's interesting to know. I wasn't bothered by them, but just annoyed. And I wondered if they were going around. Got my answer. Thanks.

I think that those might be SPAM, Barbara!
