Focus

Here's a topic that has helped me in managing my pain. This post is written mostly to those of you who suffer from chronic pain, as I do.

The article I am working on today is a book review. The book is called Pain, The Gift Nobody Wants, by Dr. Paul Brand and Philip Yancey. I think it is a worthwhile read for anyone suffering from chronic pain, or anyone caring for someone in that condition.

One helpful concept I came away with was the theory of focusing our mind on a topic or idea other than our pain. Apparently our brains can't process pain messages and other information at the same time. So, if your mind is engaged in some other task, or focus, you don't sense pain as much.

What a great motivation to do something else instead of focusing on our pain! And what a great reason to work on my website! Who knew this would be an outcome of being a WAer? As I focus on my research, reading, writing and posting, I feel less pain. I have practiced this consistently over the past weeks, and find it to be true.

Could this possibly help you? I hope so! Not only will you feel better; you'll be building your website. A win-win.

Get to work my WA family!

Here's to less pain today! And tomorrow.

Barb

The challenge is refocusing your mind away from the pain on to something else. If you are able to divert your mind and focus on something other than the pain. you will feel less pain. What we focus on, we empower!

Well said! Thanks. I like the empower idea.

I do okay during the day. But sometimes I hurt after going to bed. I've found that it really helps if I can just focus my thoughts on something else, and the pain disappears. Yes, it's helpful.
